🎯 Find YOUR ideal time based on your desires:
💡 Our advice: There is no ONE perfect time for a safari in Tanzania. The best time is the one that matches YOUR dreams and YOUR priorities!

Here are my detailed explanations 😊
The big question: what is YOUR ideal safari?
Let’s start by defining what truly excites you. The best time to go depends on what you dream of seeing, feeling, and experiencing.
Profile 1: "I want maximum animals, as easily as possible"
The choice of the long dry season: June to October
During the dry season, from June to October, the vegetation thins out and animals reveal themselves as far as the eye can see. Personally, I went in October.
I remember a tree where up to 12 lionesses were dozing on the branches, while a few meters away, a herd of zebras crossed the savanna, carefree, as if time itself had stopped. I lived a moment etched forever. The wild animals evolve in their world, and I, moved, contemplate this living spectacle.

When the dry season sets in, the savanna turns ocher with dust. Only a few waterholes remain, becoming the stage for spectacular animal encounters. In these conditions, the legendary Big Five won't escape you!
Pros:
- Ideal season for spotting the maximum number of animals
- Temperatures remain pleasant
- No rain, blue skies
Cons:
- It is the peak tourist season
- You’ll cross paths with many 4x4s on the trails, especially in the Ngorongoro crater. In the Serengeti, this presence is felt a bit less thanks to the immensity of the place
- Rates are higher
- You must book early to be able to choose "your" circuit, the one that suits you
Profile 2: "My dream is the Great Migration!"
August and September
To experience the spectacle of the Great Migration, prioritize the months of August and September. You will be captivated by the extraordinary ballet that animates the savanna and the vast plains.
Every year, millions of wildebeest, accompanied by thousands of zebras and antelopes, advance in an endless procession between Tanzania and Kenya, in search of fresh pastures.
You will see the animals stand ready, hesitate, then launch themselves into the perilous river crossings, like the Mara. Moments of rare intensity.
I didn't have the chance to go on safari during the Great Migration period. Yet, even in October, the savanna offered me an unforgettable spectacle. Everywhere, entire families of zebras, wildebeest, and antelopes animated the landscape: some crossed the plains in herds, others came to drink at scattered waterholes. I still remember the very particular sound of the zebras: their whinnying resonates in the distance, carried by the wind. These calls weave a bond between them, like a language allowing them to alert of danger, gather the group, or find a lost companion.
I can only imagine the spectacles the animals offer during the rainy season... it must be simply exceptional. The green plains, the swollen rivers, and this animal life in motion, even more abundant... a wildlife of striking beauty.

Pros:
- The guarantee of seeing the maximum number of animals
- You will experience the famous river crossings
- Temperatures remain pleasant
Cons:
- The highest rates
- You must book very early to be sure to have a spot
- There is a high volume of 4x4s in the parks
Profile 3: "My dream is to witness the births!"
The secret of the green season: January and February
January and February are the birth season. If you want to witness unforgettable scenes, observe the baby wildebeest coming into the world and trying to stand on their legs, this is the ideal season.
These scenes of life take place mainly in the Ndutu region, south of the Serengeti National Park.
During this time, felines and predators watch every move. You will be able to witness exceptional hunting scenes. A raw, wild, and fascinating spectacle.
During my safari, I had the immense luck to spot a leopard that had just captured a small antelope. In a leap, it began to climb the trunk of a tree to hoist its prey to safety, far from scavengers. This spectacle, both brutal and sublime, remains one of the most striking moments of my trip.

Pros:
- The births
- Intense predator activity
- The season is less touristy
- Rates are starting to drop
Cons:
- The weather is generally nice but there are regular thunderstorms, especially in the late afternoon
- Tall grass makes it harder to spot animals, especially felines that hide in it. You need more patience to see them
Profile 4: "I am a photographer, I love grand landscapes and I want to escape the crowds"
The boldness of the rainy seasons: November-December and March-May
After each shower, the light becomes incredible and brilliant, and the skies are adorned with changing colors. You feel alone in the world, far from the "highway" safaris, with the silence of the savanna as your only companion. The now-green plains come alive with fascinating life. Migratory birds in large numbers draw clouds in the sky, while animals take advantage of the resplendent waterholes.
Every moment becomes a unique opportunity to capture the beauty of these scenes of life. Every day is full of the unexpected: a trail that has become impassable or a lodge that is inaccessible... but that is also what makes the charm of the adventure. Period recommended for explorers.

Pros:
- There are few crowds in the parks
- Intimate visit
- Ideal period to capture exceptional images
Cons:
- The risk of rain is very frequent
- You have to deal with the unexpected
- You must go with an experienced guide
Profile 5: "I have a tight budget, I want to take advantage of the best rates"
The choice of the rainy season: November-December and March-May
It's the rainy season. During this period, nature regenerates and the parks offer a more peaceful atmosphere.
Prices are softer and the safari more intimate. You have the feeling of being alone in the world. The savanna is covered in a brilliant green, nature is lush. Animal spotting remains good, but it requires more patience than during the dry season.
In November and December, it's the short rainy season. Showers are present, but the rains remain short. They often fall in the late afternoon. From March to May, the rains are intense. It's the long rainy season. If you aren't an explorer, or if this is your first safari, opt for November.
Before leaving, I browsed blogs and websites that mention all the possible accommodation options on safari, from luxurious lodges to more rudimentary camps. I chose a combination of both. And I don't regret the tent option
