Zanzibar is a stunning island with white-sand beaches and crystal-clear azure waters where you can dive and spot schools of colorful fish. You know those beautiful images you often see on puzzles or posters? Well, many of them are captured right here in Zanzibar. The Zanzibar archipelago is located in the Indian Ocean, about 50 kilometers from mainland Tanzania. That’s why travelers heading out on a Tanzanian safari often spend a few days in Zanzibar afterward to unwind. It’s easy to see why!

Soaking up the sun with a view like that is a dream for many, but there is so much more to do in Zanzibar. You can go snorkeling or scuba diving, explore Stone Town (the capital), swim with dolphins, hunt for hidden beaches, or try your hand at mountain biking, sailing, canoeing, or SUP. What we love is that there’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking for sports, relaxation, great food, or adventure. Here is a non-exhaustive list of activities to enjoy in Zanzibar.

Stone Town
Many travelers absolutely love visiting Stone Town, so I’m going to tell you a bit more about it!
Stone Town is a city rich in history and culture. What’s truly fascinating about Stone Town is the blend of influences. Originally, the inhabitants of Stone Town came from Arab countries, Africa, and India. Just imagine that mix!
As you wander through the city's narrow alleyways, you’re constantly surrounded by the scents of spices, fruits, and vegetables from the markets. Another detail that gives the city so much charm: the unique, beautifully carved wooden doors.
We recommend visiting the former slave market as well as the House of Wonders, the Sultan’s former ceremonial palace. And if you’re looking to take a break and treat yourself to a delicious meal, there is no shortage of restaurants in Stone Town.
