4 years ago, we took advantage of an extended Easter weekend to visit Munich in Bavaria. By booking our flights and hotels separately, we managed to get some great rates.
It was wonderful exploring the city in such gorgeous weather. A big part of the downtown area is pedestrian-only, which is fantastic. You can really feel that the city and its residents are well off, you see plenty of luxury cars around. There are also lots of gorgeous historic buildings to check out.
I was also surprised by the banks of the Isar River, which runs right through the city from north to south. It's largely protected from over-development, and you'll find sandy beaches there... frequented by nudists.
My only real regret is that I would have loved to visit the famous Neuschwanstein Castle down in southern Bavaria, the one that inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle, but a few minor health hiccups cost us a full day of sightseeing :(
