Pretty ramparts that frame the square where Matthias Church is located, with a really nice view of the Danube and Parliament. Note that a restaurant and a cafe block access to some of the lower parts of the ramparts. As for the upper part of the ramparts, you have to pay. Even though the price is modest, I am not sure it is worth it, unless you just want to avoid some of the tourists.

A pretty bridge that lets you take in both banks of the Danube at a glance, and check out its width too! Obviously useful for getting from the Buda side to the Pest side (and vice versa). Don't miss the lion statues on each side, whose tongues (absent or too small according to some) supposedly caused a controversy and, according to legend, led to the architect's death...

I found Tamerza (or Tameghza) a bit by chance while looking for a hotel in a place far from the world, unusual and comfortable. As it happens, the Tamerza Palace hotel brings all those qualities together, along with a pool, an adorable staff, and above all, an incredible view of the ruins of the old Berber village of Tamerza. This village, built on the edge of a magnificent palm grove, was destroyed by deadly floods in the 60s. I have only had good experiences with Vueling, with an on-board service level almost equivalent to that of Air France. Nothing to complain about regarding flight punctuality or the cleanliness of the planes.

I have been a Booking customer for a long time and my hotel or flight reservations have almost always gone well (one disappointment with a dishonest hotel and Booking customer service was not very helpful). The site is pretty well made, intuitive, and lets you see the availability of different properties or flights almost in real time, with quite a few explanations provided. The messaging system is also very useful for getting in touch with the property in question. On the other hand, I have had some doubts about the authenticity of the ratings for certain apartments or hotels recently added to the Booking catalog (a very good rating before starting a reservation, which suddenly changes when…

In the heart of the beautiful Damaraland region, Twyfelfontein is a rock art site with hundreds of petroglyphs that you can see during an easy and enjoyable 1.5 to 2 hour loop walk. A people that apparently disappeared long ago left an incredible bestiary carved into the rock for future generations, and it is pretty fun trying to guess the animals, footprints, or abstract designs represented there. Interesting, fun, and nice to do with kids.

I was thrilled by my first photo safari in this park! The park is pretty well preserved and maintained, but without the human touch being too visible and without too many tourists (at least, during the so-called "dry" season). It was just incredible for me to see giraffes, elephants, oryx, impalas, zebras, and even a mama leopard with her 2 cubs (!) going quietly about their business from so close up. Sure, in the dry season, there is a lot of dust on the trails, but it creates a simply magical atmosphere when the animals gather to drink at the various water holes at the end of the day. Even though it is very touristy, Nerja is a charming little town offering a superb panorama of the sea and the coast. The famous Balcon de l'Europe is well laid out along a pretty pedestrian walkway lined with palm trees that allows you to access cute little beaches down below. Located on the road connecting Malaga to Almeria and Granada, it is a great place to stop for a few hours or a few days during a trip through Andalusia. The selection of small restaurants, ice cream shops, tourist boutiques, and parking lots seemed perfect to us and convinced us to stop there twice (on the way there and on the way back from our trip) for a few hours of relaxation, for the beauty of the landscape, and…

We were completely captivated by our visit to the Alhambra. Its history is gripping, its location and architecture are sublime, and the gardens are absolutely magnificent. Plan on a good half day to let yourself get swept up in the magic of the scenery and the site, and bring some good hiking shoes!
