Visiting Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer

Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer is widely considered one of the true gems of the Var region. This sunny seaside town offers excellent walking paths and idyllic swimming in the Mediterranean. Tucked between Marseille and Toulon, it remains a favorite destination for travelers exploring the southeast coast.

Nature, sports, and relaxation

Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer is renowned for its protected natural surroundings. The Sentier du littoral (Coastal Path) begins at the small port of La Madrague and winds along the shoreline all the way to Bandol. This popular trail showcases the classic scenery of the Provençal coast. It is easy to navigate, making it just as suitable for beachgoers as it is for families. From the Pointe Grenier, a collection of rock formations jutting into the sea, you can see the seafloor through the clear water. After your hike, you can enjoy two kilometers of white sand along the town's beaches. The plages de La Madrague and des Lecques are the busiest spots during the summer. They offer a wide range of water sports, including kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and windsurfing. If you prefer more privacy, head to the beach at La Reinette or the calanque of Port d'Alon. Sports enthusiasts should also visit the famous golf de Frégate, which you can spot while hiking the coastal path. This complex features an 18-hole course and a 9-hole academy that offer panoramic views between swings.

Gastronomy and art

Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer has plenty to offer within the town itself. An evening stroll at the port often ends with a meal at one of the many small restaurants open during the season. Be sure to try a glass of wine from the local vineyards. These AOC-certified wines are regular award winners at the Salon de l'Agriculture. The Moulin de Saint-Côme is also well-known for its olive oils and other regional specialties. Looking for a cultural break? Stop by the Centre d'art contemporain Sébastien, a former caper processing plant turned art space, or the musée de Tauroentum, which focuses on the Gallo-Roman era. In terms of heritage, the town features a unique attraction that delights visitors: its very own Statue of Liberty. This perfect replica of its American counterpart is smaller in scale. Created by Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, it was gifted to the town by a wealthy property owner. You will also find beautiful outdoor sculptures scattered throughout the city, such as the four elements by Renata Senso, Brindille by Roselyne Conil, and Diane au Turban by Béatrice Pothin Gallard.

When to visit

It is best to visit Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer during the warmer months, as the small beach town loses some of its character in the winter. Spring and early autumn are also very pleasant. The climate is typically Mediterranean, meaning it stays mild and sunny for most of the year.

How to get there

The Saint-Cyr-Les Lecques - La Cadière train station sits on the Marseille-Saint-Charles line. It is just a 45-minute train ride from Marseille and about 20 minutes from Toulon. You can also reach Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer from Nice in roughly 2 hours by car.

A great family destination

A place that smells like fresh sea air! For me, the big advantage is the cleanliness. That is not always the case in very touristy seaside spots. The Plage des Lecques is beautiful with its clear water and sand. You can enjoy an ice cream while relaxing or just strolling around.

A place where life is good

This small town has kept a few corners of the countryside that are famous for their vineyards and olive trees. The "village" (downtown) is pleasant and has a few shops. Les Lecques beach is very pretty (see the corresponding article). It is a calm and peaceful place, between the sea and the countryside.
