2 Days in Cuernavaca: The City of Eternal Spring

Translated from French — Read the French original

Located in the State of Morelos, Cuernavaca is about 50 miles from Mexico City and is the perfect place to escape the madness of the capital.

Nicknamed the City of Eternal Spring, Cuernavaca truly enjoys a pleasant climate year-round. That's why every weekend, the city fills up with tourists, as well as locals from the capital who own second homes here.

Since the city isn't very large and there aren't many attractions, in my opinion, two days is enough to stay in Cuernavaca. Most people who head there just rent a house with a pool and, truthfully, don't visit any cultural sites at all. However, I highly recommend taking a walk around town to discover what Cuernavaca has to offer!

Palacio de Cortés

You absolutely shouldn't miss the Palacio de Cortés (Cuauhnahuac Museum). In addition to being a museum dedicated to the history of the State of Morelos, the Conquistador's former residence houses a magnificent mural by Diego Rivera. It traces the history of the state from the pre-Columbian era through the Conquest and up to the Revolution. Admission is 50 pesos, which is about €2.50!

The Handicraft Market

This market is located just to the right of the Palacio de Cortés and, in my opinion, is worth a quick look. You'll find items from Morelos, Guerrero, and the Mexico City region, such as bracelets, bags, clothing, and even paintings on amate paper.

Walking in the City Center

Even though it's not the most pedestrian-friendly downtown in Mexico (the sidewalks aren't very wide and cars can drive fast...), I think the city center is worth exploring, especially for the architecture of the buildings, including the Palacio de Gobierno.

Near the Zocalo kiosk in the Plaza de Armas, you'll find many street vendors, including one selling elotes. Elotes are grilled corn on the cob that can be topped with butter, cheese, chili, or cream.

The Cathedral, set in the middle of a small park, is a little further away, as is the Robert Brady Museum.

Teopanzolco Pyramids

Much less impressive than those in Teotihuacan or Chichen Itza, you can visit these small pyramids if you have the time, but they aren't essential.

Outside of Cuernavaca...

Don't hesitate to make a stop in the Pueblo Magico of Tepoztlán and hike to the top of the Tepozteco! Its market is overflowing with specialties, each more delicious than the last. Some Cuernavaca residents go to this village every week to buy fresh fruit, including figs. Don't forget to try the Tepoznieves, ice creams and sorbets in a thousand and one flavors! Tres leches, strawberry, chamoy, pineapple with chili, banana yogurt... There really is something for everyone. Unlike what you might be used to, you can ask to sample several flavors before making your choice. These ice creams are also available in Cuernavaca, Puebla, or the capital!

Aucunes idées, mais beaucoup a mon avis... Il y en a plusieurs dans la capitale, dont une dans le quartier de Coyoacan et une hacienda qui est aujourd'hui un restaurant
