The site is huge and you have to drive through it, stopping at various points to admire the surprisingly varied landscapes. Dante’s View, located at the top of a mountain, remains the most impressive for me. You can see the valley and the salt flats down below, it is magnificent.
At the bottom of the park, near Badwater, I walked on the salt before getting back on the road on the Artist’s Palette Drive trail. The ocher, red, and green colors of the rock are sublime. It really looks like an impressionist painting. I ended up walking, just for a few minutes, in the dunes.
Prepare for your visit well because there is no internet or mobile service on site. I broke down near the park exit, and it was a real adventure. To look for help, there was no other way than to hitchhike to reach the next gas station, which was more than thirty minutes away. This will be the most memorable moment of my road trip! Definitely do not rent the Nissan Rogue for this trip, it cannot handle the altitude changes. The problem is recurring in this area, but our rental agency, Alamo, had not warned us.
