The Volendam Museum has stood in the heart of Volendam since 1977. It serves as a witness to an era when fishing nets dried in front of every home and traditional costume was part of daily life. Traditional costumes: much more than mere clothing
The Volendam costume (klederdracht) is world famous, and the museum reveals all its secrets. Every detail carries meaning. The color of a ribbon, the shape of a cap, or the number of buttons on a bodice tell the story of the age, marital status, and even the personality of the wearer.
