Why Visit Puy du Fou?
One of the World's Best Theme Parks
Puy du Fou draws over 2 million visitors annually. It depicts local and national history, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, using elaborate sets, professional actors, and pyrotechnics. Its production quality has earned it international acclaim, including a Thea Classic Award, and it is frequently cited as a favorite European destination for many American travelers.
Puy du Fou Shows
The park spans 50 hectares of forest and is home to over 2,000 animals, including horses, birds of prey, wolves, and buffalo, which participate in the performances.
With about 20 shows ranging from a few minutes to 35 minutes, you cannot see everything in one day. To optimize your visit, use a site map and plan your schedule beforehand. A pro tip: invest 32€ (about $34) for the Pass Émotion to get priority access, better seating, and save time. If possible, allocate 2 or 3 days for your visit.
The 9 Major Shows

The 9 major shows are defined by acrobatics, elaborate sets, and special effects:
- Le Signe du Triomphe, featuring Roman circus games.
- Les Vikings, detailing a medieval village under attack.
- Le Bal des Oiseaux Fantômes, an aerial display with 200 birds of prey.
- Le Secret de la Lance, a castle-siege story inspired by Joan of Arc.
- Mousquetaire de Richelieu, a swashbuckling adventure.
- Le Dernier Panache, the story of the hero Charette told with 360-degree projections.
- Le Mime et l'Étoile, a poetic tribute to the early days of cinema.
- L'Épée du Roi Arthur, the legend of the Knights of the Round Table.
- Les Noces de Feu, a nighttime show blending music, pyrotechnics, and water choreography.

The 4 Immersive Shows
Between major shows, you can explore 4 immersive walkthroughs. There are no scheduled times, so you can join whenever you like. You move on foot through detailed sets and scenes:
- La Renaissance du Château, focusing on the history of the Château des Epesses (Castle of Les Epesses).
- Le Premier Royaume, following the life of Clovis, King of the Franks.
- Le Mystère de la Pérouse, an adventure based on famous maritime explorers.
- Les Amoureux de Verdun, a walk through a WWI trench on Christmas Eve.
Other Entertainment
Puy du Fou also hosts shorter street performances in the village squares, such as the Automates Musiciens (Musical Automatons) or the Grand Carillon (Great Carillon). While these are not essential to prioritize in a tight schedule, they add to the park's atmosphere and are particularly popular with young children.
4 Period Villages
Walking through the Grand Parc feels like traveling through history.
Le Bourg Bérard
Formerly Bourg 1900, this area recreates a village square at the turn of the 20th century during the Belle Époque. It is the most modern section of the park, featuring souvenir shops, a bistro, a restaurant, and a photo lab.
Font-Rognou
Formerly Cité Médiévale, this is a fortified medieval village. You can watch professional artisans like stone carvers, coopers, potters, and glassblowers practice traditional techniques and purchase their work in small shops.

Chasseloup
Formerly Village XVIIIe, this area has a rustic, 18th-century feel with stone houses, gardens, and medicinal herbs. A 16-meter tower hosts the Grand Carillon, which performs regular concerts.
Saint Philbert-le-Viel
Formerly Fort de l'an-mil, this hamlet is inspired by the Viking era, but in a peaceful setting. These huts, modeled after homes from the late first millennium, are occupied by blacksmiths and other period artisans.
How Was Puy du Fou Created?

Viscount Philippe De Villiers, then sub-prefect of the Vendée region, founded the Cinéscénie in 1978. This massive nighttime show, set against the backdrop of the Château des Epesses, involves nearly 2,500 actors, 28,000 costumes, and roughly 4,000 volunteers known as Puyfolais. The success led to the creation of the Grand Parc less than a decade later, expanding the site by over 55 hectares. Beyond the shows, the park preserves ancestral traditions through its artisans, a performing arts school, and a falconry program.
Opening hours
Open for the season from April through early November. The main park is open from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM, until 9:00 PM with a reservation, and until 10:30 PM on nights featuring a night show.
Performances are also scheduled during the Christmas season.
How long for this activity
Plan for a full day to enjoy the major shows at Puy du Fou without rushing. If you really want to see back-to-back performances and wander through the sets, allow for two days.
