  • For a bundle combining La Cinéscénie and the Grand Parc, adult tickets start at 76€/day ($82/day) and child tickets at 64€/day ($69/day) for a one-day visit booked over 72 hours in advance, including Bronze seating. As explained in this guide, you can book vacation packages combining park admission with overnight stays at one of the 6 themed hotels on site. Why Visit Puy du Fou?

One of the World's Best Theme Parks

Puy du Fou draws over 2 million visitors each year. The park brings local and national history to life from the Middle Ages to the 20th century through massive theatrical productions, live actors, and high-end pyrotechnic special effects. Constantly reinventing itself, the park owes its international acclaim to the sheer quality of its performances. Honored with a Thea Classic Award, it stands out as a favorite European theme park for international travelers.

Puy du Fou Shows

Set across 123 acres of lush forest, the park is home to more than 2,000 animals, including horses, birds of prey, wolves, and bison that take part in the live performances.

The park hosts around twenty shows ranging from a few minutes to 35 minutes long. Seeing all of them in a single day is practically impossible. To make the most of your trip, grab a park map and map out a schedule beforehand. A smart strategy is to spend 32€ ($35) on the Pass Émotion, which gives you priority access to performances, preferred seating, and time savings. Give yourself 2 or 3 days here if your itinerary allows.

The 9 Major Shows

Course de quadriges - Signe du Triomphe

Running for roughly 30 minutes each, the 9 flagship shows feature high-energy stunt work, elaborate sets, and cutting-edge special effects:

  • Le Signe du triomphe, recreating Roman circus games in a massive stadium
  • Les Vikings, staging a medieval village defending against a Viking raid
  • Le Bal des Oiseaux Fantômes, an aerial ballet featuring 200 birds of prey soaring overhead
  • Le Secret de la Lance, an action-packed siege of a fortress inspired by Joan of Arc
  • Mousquetaire de Richelieu, a swashbuckling cloak-and-dagger adventure with flamenco dancing on water
  • Le Dernier Panache, following the historic Vendéen hero Charette through shifting staging and a 360-degree theater screen
  • Le Mime et l'Étoile, combining live acting and projection mapping to tell a poetic romance about the dawn of cinema
  • L'Épée du Roi Arthur, bringing the legend of the Knights of the Round Table to life
  • Les Noces de Feu, a nighttime aquatic water ballet blending music, pyrotechnics, and lighting effects

The 4 Immersive Walkthrough Experiences

If you have 20 to 30 minutes between major shows, step into one of the 4 immersive walkthrough attractions at Puy du Fou. These have no fixed showtimes, so you can walk right in whenever you please. Instead of watching passively from a seat, you walk through detailed walkthrough sets where actors and environmental design plunge you directly into the narrative:

  • La Renaissance du Château, revealing the history behind the historic Château des Epesses
  • Le Premier Royaume, following in the footsteps of Clovis, King of the Franks
  • Le Mystère de la Pérouse, bringing you aboard the ill-fated voyage of a renowned French sea captain
  • Les Amoureux de Verdun, taking you through a World War I frontline trench on Christmas Eve

Other Performances

Puy du Fou also runs smaller street theater acts and mini-shows lasting just a few minutes. These draw smaller crowds and take place right in the village squares, featuring attractions like the Automates Musiciens and the Grand Carillon. While you do not need to rush to these if you are pressed for time, they add great flavor to the park environment, especially if you are traveling with young children who tend to love them.

4 Period Villages, 4 Distinct Vibes

Simply walking through the Grand Parc transports you across centuries of European history.

Le Bourg Bérard

Formerly called Bourg 1900, this area reconstructs the town square of a turn-of-the-century village during the Belle Époque. It is the most modern corner of the park, packed with gift shops, a bistro, a restaurant, and a period photo studio. The mini-shows staged here, such as the Automates Musiciens and the Ballet des Sapeurs, are a big hit with kids.

Font-Rognou

Previously known as the Cité Médiévale, this zone recreates a fortified medieval village enclosed by stone ramparts and accessed via a drawbridge. What makes this area special is the working community of professional artisans. Stone carvers, coopers, potters, and master glassblowers use centuries-old techniques right in front of you. You can purchase their handcrafted goods at small period market stalls.

Artisan de Font-Rognou

Ex Village XVIIIè, this area offers a picturesque, pastoral setting with 18th-century stone houses, tile roofs, and an organic vegetable and herb garden. Artisans here craft parchment, custom decor, and botanical scents. A massive 52-foot tower housing musical instruments, the Grand Carillon, regularly springs to life for open-air concerts.

Saint Philbert-le-Viel

Formerly the Fort de l'an-mil, this hamlet draws inspiration from the Viking show in its peaceful daily life version. The rustic huts mirror housing from the late first millennium and are home to working blacksmiths and period craftspeople.

How Was Puy du Fou Created?

La Cinéscénie, à l'origine du Puy du Fou

Viscount Philippe De Villiers, then sub-prefect of the Vendée region, launched La Cinéscénie in 1978. Set against the real-life backdrop of the château des Epesses, this massive nighttime production involves close to 2,500 actors in 28,000 costumes alongside nearly 4,000 local volunteers affectionately known as Puyfolais. The show was an instant hit, and less than a decade later, the Grand Parc opened, adding 135 acres to the original 57. Beyond the theatrical shows, the park places a strong emphasis on traditional heritage trades, featuring working artisans preserving ancient crafts, a specialized performing arts school, and a world-class falconry program.

A park that feels just right

I went there when I was little with my parents and again recently, and the park gave me the exact same thrills! You don't need to be a history buff to enjoy the shows. It is a park on a human scale, which really shines a light on the Vendée region and all the volunteers who participate. A truly inspiring example of French craftsmanship!

unique, spectacular and unforgettable

Puy du Fou is simply exceptional.
The daytime shows are grandiose, immersive, and perfectly paced. They are capable of amazing both kids and adults alike.
Every production is impressive.
And what can I say about the Cinéscénie at night: a unique, spectacular, and unforgettable moment that ends the visit on a high note. Remember to book ahead.

Since my first time, I go back every year!

My first trip to Puy du Fou (2022) was a Christmas gift from my wife, and she really went all out! We stayed in one of the park's hotels (Le Grand Siècle) and had two days to make the most of it. That meant I didn't feel frustrated, because I was able to do every single activity on offer. The shows are spectacular (shout out to Le Dernier Panache and Les Mousquetaires de Richelieu). Every year, I find the same joy!

Unmissable shows

A park lost in the middle of the Vendée that has really made a name for itself. Breathtaking shows, impressive actors and stunt performers, and well-crafted music and sound and light effects. You are bound to be enchanted by a visit to Puy du Fou, especially if you love history and the performing arts. I recommend planning your route in advance, especially if you are only going for one day, as the lines can be long in the summer!

Grandios shows

Puy du Fou offers some truly incredible shows that will please both kids and adults alike. The park is huge, so I recommend staying for a few days if you have the chance. Definitely do not miss the Cinéscénie, which you need to book separately from your ticket. The admission price is pretty fair.

Spectacular shows

My favorite French park! There are no thrill rides here, although... the shows are all breathtaking! You can admire chariot races, Viking battles, and bird acrobatics, not to mention the exceptional Cinéscénie, which you absolutely cannot miss! Plan on two days to fully enjoy all the performances. While the purely historical aspect doesn't always hold up, with a very Vendée-focused bias that can sometimes be annoying, the park really showcases state of the art performance techniques. Unfortunately, the hotels are very expensive. It is better to stay outside the park. Be careful, you should anticipate major traffic jams when driving in and parking. Plan to arrive before opening. Small downside, there have been some complaints regarding animal welfare.

Il n'y a effectivement plus de fauves dans un spectacle comme le Signe du Triomphe (où des lions et tigres avaient l'habitude de participer) pour préserver le bien être animal.

The greatest live show in the world!

This is a theme park that doesn't get talked about enough.

During the day, numerous shows will delight every member of the family and take you back through different eras of the past, from antiquity to the last century, including the Middle Ages.

In the evening, several nighttime shows are also offered. Les Orgues de feux gives you a lovely, poetic story over a lake.

If you can, run to see the Cinéscénie, a massive show featuring hundreds of actors and extras along with top-notch sound and light effects. Just a heads up, tickets are booked separately, they sell out fast, and for high season, you need to plan several months in advance.

One downside though: the recent report showing how the volunteers and employees are not always treated well. I am taking off a point because of that.

Spectacular and poetic shows

No thrill rides at Puy du Fou, but plenty of different shows to see. There are sword fights just like you would expect (Le Signe du Triomphe, the Vikings...), but also trained animals just there to put on a show (birds of prey), races (peplum style), spectacular staging with lighting effects, and moving sets (Le Secret de la Lance!), or even some poetry (I loved the new show Le Mime et l'Etoile, as well as the night show Les Noces de Feu).

More for the shows than the rides

I thought I was going to find a classic theme park with rides, roller coasters, and other thrill machines, but actually, not at all.
Puy du Fou is more of an entertaining museum that tries to make you relive the past in a fun and spectacular way. It starts right from the open-access areas that recreate old villages, continues with the hotels that mimic period-style buildings, and ends on a high note with live shows like the Cinescenie that stage local historical events with a profusion of actors and sound and light effects.

A little trip into the past

Whether it is the villages that recreate different eras from the past, the themed accommodations (Romans, Gauls...), or the shows that stage historical events, Puy du Fou will take you on a journey through time.
It is a great place to spend a wonderful weekend with family or friends.

Excellent shows for the family

The attractions aren't the strong suit of Puy du Fou. It's really the shows that make you go. Historical reenactments, fun staging, sound and light shows... Magical moments to experience as a family.

A world of its own

This is an amusement park that managed to create its own universe without relying on an already established brand like Disney or Asterix.
There are a few rides accessible for families, but you mostly come here to see shows that plunge you back into the medieval era and local history. Attend reenactments of knight tournaments, sword fights, and bird of prey hunting demonstrations. There are also sound and light shows, with fire effects, and the incredible Cinéscénie.
A must see!

Space-time warp

When you walk through the gates of this park, it feels like entering another world. Even if the Middle Ages aren't your favorite historical period (personally, they don't do anything for me), you eventually get swept up in such a unique atmosphere. The park's acrobats are impressive, the animals are very well trained, and the little ones will be quickly captivated by these tales of chivalry.
