What to know about Roses Beach

Located on the Costa Brava, Roses Beach stands as one of the primary draws of this Catalan coastal town. With its golden sand and shallow water, it attracts both families and water sports enthusiasts alike. Its expansive waterfront, lined with restaurants and shops, makes it an easy spot to relax or go for a stroll.

Fine sand and calm water on the Costa Brava

Stretching for several kilometers, Roses Beach offers an ideal setting for swimming. Its fine sand and clear, shallow water extending for several meters allow children to play safely. During the summer, services such as lounge chair and umbrella rentals make for an easier day by the water. The water is generally calm, shielded by the bay which keeps waves and currents to a minimum.

Water sports and recreation

Roses is known for its wide range of water activities. On the beach, you can rent a paddleboard, a kayak, or try your hand at windsurfing. Further offshore, boat excursions allow you to explore the wild coves of the Cap de Creus. For those seeking thrills, several centers offer jet ski sessions or parasailing with a view of the entire bay.

A pleasant seaside promenade

The Roses waterfront features a pedestrian promenade that runs alongside the beach. Lined with palm trees, it provides a path to the harbor or a chance to stop at one of the many bars and restaurants. In the evening, the area comes to life, with terraces filling up to serve local specialties like paella and seafood.

Too crowded in high season

The Roses beach on the Costa Brava is a typical beach for the region.

Off-season, it is really pleasant and lets you enjoy the scenery and a nice walk along the sea, even if there is a lot of concrete and apartment buildings in the surrounding area.

On the other hand, in peak season, the beach is very crowded and clearly less pleasant.

Average

While Roses Beach is easy to get to because it is right in the city center, it is not the prettiest beach on the Costa Brava. I find that it feels very artificial. If you are looking for a natural and unspoiled setting, this is not the ideal spot. In the summer, it is impossible to find a space without being right on top of each other.

Big and sandy but lacks charm

Right in the center of Roses, easy to get to, the beach at this resort town is just like many others in these types of destinations: a long sandy beach packed with vacationers and bordered by a road, shops, and buildings. If you head out toward Cap de Creus, you can find some nicer coves.
