What to know about Cala Montjoi
A few miles from the center of Roses, Cala Montjoi is a small bay tucked into the Cap de Creus Natural Park. With its rugged setting and crystalline water, it appeals to those looking for nature and quiet. Accessible by a winding road or by boat, this pebble beach is well-suited for swimming and diving.
An accessible cove in the Cap de Creus Natural Park
Unlike the vast sandy beaches of Roses, Cala Montjoi is a cove bordered by cliffs and Mediterranean vegetation. Far from the urban bustle, it offers a more intimate and authentic atmosphere, even with a few hotels located nearby. The water here is clear, revealing a seafloor rich in marine life.
A prime spot for diving and snorkeling
Sheltered from wind and currents, the cove is a favorite for divers and snorkeling enthusiasts. The transparent water makes it easy to observe a wide variety of fish and underwater rock formations. Several dive centers in Roses organize excursions to this area, which is known for its biodiversity.
Hiking and access
You can reach Cala Montjoi by car by taking a narrow road that winds through the natural park, or on foot via trails that offer views of the coast. For those who enjoy walking, a hike from Roses allows you to follow the coastline and admire the typical landscapes of Cap de Creus before arriving at the cove.
A 20-minute drive from the center of Rosas, this cove remains relatively accessible, but it still lets you escape the concrete sprawl of the city. Well, there is still a parking lot, a restaurant, and a hotel right next to it. Aside from that, it is cliffs or wooded hills and crystal-clear waters that make up the scenery. The beach is made up mainly of gravel or pebbles. Very few waves and a gentle slope make it an ideal spot for kids. It is definitely better to wear water shoes.
