Visiting Cap de Creus Natural Park
The Massís de l'Albera (Albera Massif) mountains form the eastern edge of the Pyrenees range. At the tip of the Iberian Peninsula, a 672-meter promontory juts out into the Mediterranean. This is Cap de Creus Natural Park.
A Costa Brava standout
Located about 100 kilometers from Barcelona, 40 kilometers from the French border, and six kilometers from the village of Cadaqués, this is one of the most distinct areas of the Costa Brava. Between its coves, dense vegetation, small islets, and notable monuments, the terrain offers rugged vistas and a landscape that remains wild and protected.
Where the Pyrenees meet the sea
Nature defines the Costa Brava, and this stretch of rocky coastline, with its jagged cliffs meeting the water, is its most iconic symbol. The Cap de Creus Natural Park landscape changes with every step, as rocky inlets and hidden coves break up the mountainside. Whether you find pebble shores or sandy bays, the site balances raw power with delicate beauty. Observant visitors will recognize this terrain from the work of Salvador Dalí, specifically his painting The Spectre of Sex Appeal. While he often favored the most arid and rocky sections, the area is covered in typical maquis shrubland.
Natural and cultural heritage
A Natural Park, covering both land and sea, protects this region and its endemic species. It serves as a prime destination for hikers looking for a rugged, scenic challenge. As a final point marking the eastern border of the country and the end of the Pyrenees, the Cap de Creus Lighthouse stands on an 87-meter peak at the extreme tip of the cape. Built in 1853 and standing 11 meters tall, it is listed as part of the architectural heritage of Catalonia. The view from this vantage point is worth the trip.

Cap de Creus is a stunning natural site that is perfectly preserved. You can go for a walk, go swimming, take a boat tour, or even go snorkeling. It is the ideal place for hiking enthusiasts. I recommend visiting the lighthouse, which is very interesting. It is easy to get there from Cadaqués, and the best way is to go by car.
