Visiting Salines Beach
In the town of Sainte-Anne, on the island of Martinique, you will find a stretch of coast known as Grande Anse des Salines. At its heart lies a beach frequently cited as one of the finest in the Caribbean, Salines Beach.
Location
The area is divided into three distinct sections. The most prominent is the Grande Anse des Salines. To the west, you will find Petite Anse des Salines, and to the east sits Grande Terre des Salines.
The beach is located 40 km (about 25 miles) from Fort-de-France, though it is just 5 km (about 3 miles) from the center of Sainte-Anne.
Salines Beach
It matches the postcard aesthetic perfectly, with white sand, coconut palms, and clear water filled with colorful fish. Beyond sunbathing, the beach stretches for over a kilometer, providing space for a walk along the coast. It is also a spot for gourmet breaks. Beachfront restaurants serve everything from artisanal ice cream to traditional Creole dishes.
The water clarity provides opportunities for scuba diving. You can explore the seafloor, which is dense with coral and various tropical marine life.
If you prefer hiking, a 5 km (about 3 mile) trail leads to the Anse de la Prune (Plum Cove) and the Pointe de l'Enfer (Hell's Point).
In the evening, before grabbing a drink at one of the bars along the Grande Anse des Salines, walk a few minutes along the shore to reach the Petite Anse. It is a much quieter area, away from the crowds, offering a view of the sunset over the Rocher du Diamant (Diamond Rock).
It is a legendary stretch of coast, seeing more than 2 million visitors annually, and a reliable destination for those looking for clear skies and white sand.
Salines Beach is a slice of paradise...
White sand as far as the eye can see, a few coconut trees, and clear, transparent, warm water... What more can I tell you, I think it is pretty clear. It is the best place to relax, read a book, swim a few laps, and have a nice picnic...
Whether you are alone, as a couple, or with your family, you will only need one accessory: your sunscreen.
Quick tip: word is that if you pick the right day, you might run into the Miss France contestants in the middle of a photoshoot.
