Visiting Salines Beach
In the town of Sainte-Anne, in Martinique, sits a coastal stretch known as grande Anse des Salines. At its center is a renowned beach, frequently considered one of the finest in the Caribbean, Salines Beach.
Location
The area is divided into 3 distinct sections. The most famous and expansive is grande Anse des Salines. You will also find la petite Anse des Salines further west, along with la grande Terre des Salines to the east.
The beach sits 40 km from Fort-de-France, and only 5 km from the town center of Sainte-Anne.
Salines Beach
You likely picture the classic postcard scene: white sand, coconut palms, and crystal-clear water populated by colorful fish. Yet Salines Beach offers much more than a traditional sunbathing spot. The shoreline stretches for over a kilometer, giving you room for a scenic walk along the coast. It also provides an excuse for food stops. Beachfront restaurants serve homemade ice cream alongside classic Creole specialties.
With water this clear, you have prime conditions for scuba diving, allowing you to explore seabeds rich in coral and diverse marine life.
Hiking enthusiasts can follow a 5 km trail leading all the way to Anse de la Prune and Pointe de l'Enfer.
As evening approaches, before grabbing a drink at one of the bars along grande Anse des Salines, take a short walk down the coast to petite Anse. This quieter stretch escapes the tourist crowds, offering a striking sunset view over Diamond Rock.
