Visiting the Science Museum in London

The Science Museum in London is the premier destination for science, engineering, and technology in the United Kingdom. It houses a vast collection of objects documenting the history of human innovation.

A museum for everyone

With over 300,000 items on display, the galleries trace the evolution of scientific discovery from the 1920s to the present. The museum aims to be accessible to a wide audience by breaking down complex technical subjects into engaging, educational content. You will find everything from steam locomotives and 3D printing to clinical medicine, biological sciences, and public health. The exhibits are designed to be hands-on for all ages, using models, games, and reconstructions to explain the mechanics of the world around us.

Step back in time

The building spans five floors, each dedicated to a specific scientific field, such as energy, the modern world, aviation, space exploration, and medicine.

On the ground floor, the Energy Hall focuses on the industrial revolution and transport, featuring steam engines, locomotives, and early motors. This leads into Exploring Space, which showcases rockets, satellites, space debris, and probes. You can test your skills on flight simulators or head to the IMAX cinema for documentaries on deep-sea and space exploration. You can also explore the Making the Modern World gallery, which charts technological progress from 1750 to today. For younger visitors, the Spaced Out Tour provides an interactive look at the life of an astronaut.

The first floor covers the history of agriculture and materials science. Higher levels focus on telecommunications, energy, combustion, mathematics, and maritime engineering. On the third floor, Launchpad offers school-age children a chance to engage with science through live theater shows and computer-based games. Medical history and modern surgical techniques are the focus of the fourth and fifth floors.

The museum also hosts a rotating schedule of temporary exhibitions, covering topics like Star Wars, Big Data, Leonardo da Vinci, DIY science, and the history of photography.

The whole family loved it

It is not always easy to find a museum that appeals to every taste and age. The Science Museum is one of them. You can discover many objects and machines from industry, mechanics, aviation, chemistry, astronomy, and more.
We loved: Galileo's telescope, the first steam locomotive, the old automobiles, the old airplanes, and the biochemistry demonstrations.
