My first experience with an online travel agency

A while back, using Expedia's hotel booking services was my first time ever booking an overnight hotel stay online. It was a positive experience that led us to use this online travel agency several times after that. Today, there are so many of these agencies, and Expedia is often no longer the best option in terms of pricing. Tools like Trivago are super useful now for hunting down the best deal.

Disappointed by customer service

I had made a booking with them for a flight and hotel package, but at the moment of booking on the site, I made a typo in my email address.

In this case, the booking goes through and the charge on your credit card does too, but you do not receive a confirmation. The file gets lost in the void, and they do not even call you, even though you provided your phone number at registration. So you have no idea what the flight times are, or the hotel booking details. It is up to you to figure it out by sending emails to Customer Support... If they deign to reply...

It was the first time I used Expedia and I had to run into a brick wall. Needless to say, this will be a lesson learned.

Refund taking forever

I booked a hotel for 4 nights, but after a change in my work schedule, I contacted customer service to change the reservation to 2 nights. I was then told that the reservation had been successfully updated.

2 months later, I still haven't received a refund. After calling several times and sending multiple emails, I finally got an answer: "the original reservation was not modified, so we cannot refund you."

Happy with the hotel booked through Expedia France

Hello, Just a quick encouraging word about Expedia: I recently booked a hotel night in the Paris region via Expedia and everything went well. No bad surprises at the hotel, a very good price (€50 for a 2-star double room located in La Défense, 15 minutes from the center of Paris), and very complete information about the hotel. In short, I am satisfied with the Expedia service regarding hotel room booking :)

My thoughts on Expedia

I am particularly disappointed with this travel operator. I booked a hotel in Paris through them and received a confirmation by email. The email stated that I had nothing else to do other than show up at the hotel on the day of my reservation. To be safe, I called the hotel anyway to confirm my booking, and surprise, I found out the hotel was fully booked for my dates and no room had been set aside for me. Imagine my surprise if I had arrived at the hotel that evening and gotten that answer then. When I called Expedia, their only response was: you just have to cancel your reservation. No apologies, no offer of compensation. They are in the wrong and will not admit it. So, be wary of their bookings and my advice is to verify if they are actually real. I can imagine booking a flight to New York and a hotel, only to arrive without a single room rented. Good luck!

Expedia: a flawless trip

Hello,

Back from a trip to New York organized by Yasmine at Expedia, I wanted to send this email to share my total satisfaction regarding the recommendation and organization of this trip.

The hotel (Element Hotel at Times Square) was perfectly located, the staff was pleasant, the room was spacious, and the bathroom was huge. For this first trip, I had asked for a favor, which was to be placed on one of the upper floors of the hotel to have a view of the city. My request was heard, and the view of the Empire State Building was truly magical (30th floor).

I was hesitant at first, but I let myself be tempted by the activities offered by Expedia, and what a surprise it was during our visit to that same Empire State Building to benefit from an express service that saved us from any wait (like a VIP). The Manhattan tour with Gray Line was flawless, with a charming guide who was full of humor.

Caught up in the whirlwind of our New York days, we forgot about a tour scheduled for Tuesday, August 14. After sending an email that same evening to Expedia to see if you could allow us to do the tour on the 16th or 17th of August, we received a response ASAP and were accommodated.

Everything was great, and thank you. It is a real pleasure to feel heard and considered.

I will not hesitate to reach out to you when organizing my next trip and to recommend Expedia to those around me.

Best regards,

Mariella

Watch out for Expedia

After making several reservations with Expedia without any issues, I ran into one this time. I booked a trip to New York, first the flight and then the hotel. When I booked the flight, I chose my airline and my times, everything was going well, I confirmed it and added the hotel, the number of rooms, the selection and the view, I confirmed, I booked, except that when I confirmed the hotel, my flight time, even though it had been confirmed, was changed by the site. I did not double-check, it was late, so I confirmed the reservation and paid. I realized my mistake immediately when printing the document and I tried to contact Expedia to explain my problem and change the flight time back to the one I originally chose, but despite emails, phone calls (it was very difficult to reach them), and registered letters, they refused to hear anything about it. I booked in November, the flight is on February 28, so there was plenty of time, the price was the same, the day and the airline as well, except that I wanted to leave at 10 AM instead of 7 PM, and yes, that is a day lost. NOTHING WAS POSSIBLE, NO CHANGES, THEY REFUSED TO HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT IT, SO I AM LEAVING AT 7 PM BUT THIS IS PROBABLY MY LAST TRIP WITH EXPEDIA. Booking issue with Expedia

Expedia charged me for a booking but never actually made the reservation. You end up with no money and no trip booked. To get a refund for the trip, you have to fight for it and call them 15 times over several hours. In the end, you have no trip, no compensation, and you have wasted a lot of time.
