Where to stay in Cavtat: the best neighbourhoods (2026)
Two of our members stayed in Cavtat for the exact same reason, and budget had nothing to do with it: the Dubrovnik airport sits 4.6 kilometres from the village, compared to 15.6 kilometres from the old town. One of them crashed there the night before an early morning flight and never regretted the detour.
Everything else flows from that reality. Our Dubrovnik guide actually advises against choosing Cavtat just to save money on the old town, and it is a solid point: without a car, the round trip eats up time. Come for the village itself or for your flight, not for the price tag. Keep in mind that three quarters of the places to stay here are privately owned apartments rather than hotels.
I was pleasantly surprised by my day in Cavtat since it sits right next to the airport. I honestly did not expect such a pretty town. The center is lovely and you can hit the beach without any hassle. There are some great restaurants, too. If you need to stay close to the airport, I really recommend it.

The harbor and old town The waterfront along the peninsula
Dinner right on the water, sleeping ten steps away
All of Cavtat fits right here: a walking pier, seafood displays, small fishing boats, and the Rat Peninsula closing off the bay with its pine woods. A member of our community had dinner on a terrace by the harbor and notes that you can rent lounge chairs right in the coves on the peninsula. Walking is all you need here. The downside is the crowds during peak season, as this part of the village fills up fast when the tour boats pull in.
For our last night in Croatia, we booked an apartment in Cavtat purely for logistics because our flight left early in the morning and the town sits right next to the airport. I did not expect much from the sightseeing. In the end, we spent a very pleasant day and evening here.
What to see & do in the area
Where to stay in this area
Hotel Cavtat Mid-range
The bayfront hotel on ulica Iznad Tihe, just a short walk from the promenade. It belongs to a small local group and stands as the most central spot we checked out.
Indigo Cavtat Apartments Budget
Rental apartments located 649 metres from the port, reached via a flight of stairs. The property bills itself as 4-star and operates independently, meaning you cook your own meals and there is no 24-hour front desk.
Pros
- The boardwalk, restaurants, and fishing boats all in one spot
- The Rat Peninsula and its coves start right from the harbor
- The house of the painter Bukovac sits right in the village
Cons
- The busiest part when the tour excursions arrive
- Waterfront terraces come with higher price tags
- Very few everyday shops in the off-season
The north side of the bay, hotel district 500 to 800 metres from the port
A proper hotel featuring a swimming pool
Heading further up the bay to the north, the village gives way to the two resort hotels equipped with swimming pools, elevators, and someone at the front desk when you arrive late. People come here specifically to avoid booking an apartment, which is no small feat in this town since three-quarters of the local inventory consists of private rentals. Expect a 500 to 800 metre walk to the port. The catch is predictable: the restaurants sit down at the water, meaning you walk down and then hike back up.

Remisens Hotel Albatros Mid-range
A stay hotel on Put od Oboda street, 498 meters from the port, featuring a pool. The closer of the two to the village center.
Remisens Hotel Epidaurus Mid-range
The second hotel by the same operator, on Pavlovićeva street, 798 meters from the port. Larger format, geared toward week-long stays.
Pros
- Someone at the front desk, unlike the apartments
- Swimming pool and standard hotel services
- The port remains a ten-minute walk away
Cons
- The restaurants are all down at the port
- A resort atmosphere rather than a village feel
- Nothing to do on foot in the immediate area
Our tips for booking the right place
- Apartments over hotels, and what comes with them: Out of the 46 listed places to stay in the village, 34 are apartments or private rooms, known locally as apartmani and sobe. This is not just a semantic detail, as there is no front desk, no breakfast service, and no luggage storage, meaning key handoff needs to be arranged ahead of time with the owner. When arriving on a late flight or leaving before dawn, coordinate that at the time of booking rather than on the doorstep.
- Cavtat or Dubrovnik, the honest verdict: Our Dubrovnik guide advises against staying here just to save money, and that point holds up: without a car, every round trip to the old town eats up time, whereas neighborhoods like Lapad and Gruž are barely pricier and much better connected. Stay in Dubrovnik if your trip is centered on Dubrovnik. Stay in Cavtat if you have an early flight or prefer a coastal village over a sightseeing hub. Both answers work, they just answer different questions.
- The airport overnight, in practice: This is why two of our members stayed here, and the math checks out: the airport sits 4,6 kilometres from the village, compared to 15,6 kilometres from the old town of Dubrovnik, making it three times closer. One member notes that you are not "bothered much by airplane noise," which is the question everyone asks after reading the above. Just make sure to sort out the key pickup in advance if you book an apartment.
- Picking Cavtat to tour Dubrovnik on the cheap: our Dubrovnik guide explicitly advises against it, and without a car the round trip to the old town burns time on every outing.
- Booking an apartment without arranging key handoff: there is no reception desk, which becomes an issue when arriving late or checking out before dawn.
- Expecting the village to pulse in the off-season like it does in summer: the harbor patios drive the local energy, and they do not all run year-round.
