#2 Vauban Dam +10 4.5

Everyone knows Vauban and his fortifications, and you can see a prime example of this military architect's work in Strasbourg. The Vauban Dam, also called Grande Ecluse (Great Lock), is a 17th-century structure designed to defend the city. By damming the Ill River, Vauban could flood the southern lands to block invaders. Today, the dam is open to the public, and its rooftop terraces provide prime views of the surrounding area.

#3 Palais Rohan +7 5

In the heart of Strasbourg, the Palais Rohan stands as a cultural cornerstone. Completed in 1742 after a decade of construction, this former episcopal palace now hosts three distinct museums. Admire its refined architecture and intricate decor while exploring exhibits ranging from local ceramics and global paintings to Paleolithic Alsace.

#4 Saint Thomas Church +2 5

In the center of Strasbourg, the Saint Thomas Church stands on the square of the same name. Often called the Alsatian cathedral of Protestantism, it served a vital role for the faith in the region. Its late Gothic architecture houses treasures like the 1991 historic monument sarcophagus of Bishop Adeloch and the elaborate mausoleum of Marshal Saxe, which took twenty years to complete.

#5 Strasbourg Opera +2 5

Built on the site of a theater destroyed by fire in 1800, the Strasbourg Opera is a cultural staple in Strasbourg. Despite damage from Prussian shelling in 1870, it was restored to its original design. Today, the six muses on its historic facade overlook a modern program making opera accessible to everyone.
