Visiting Lake Kawaguchi

An iconic view of Mount Fuji
Lake Kawaguchi is one of the five lakes surrounding Mount Fuji and provides some of the most famous panoramas of the iconic peak in Japan. On clear days, the mountain's reflection on the calm water creates a highly photogenic landscape. The best times to catch this view are during autumn, when the red maples turn, and in spring, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.
Walking and activities around the lake
A bicycle path and several walking trails allow you to explore the shores of the lake. The north shore, in particular, offers an excellent vantage point for viewing Mount Fuji. You can also rent a pedal boat or take a short cruise on the lake to appreciate the scenery from a different angle.
Museums and hot springs
Several museums are scattered throughout the region, such as the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum, which is dedicated to the art of the kimono, or the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum, which exhibits antique mechanical instruments. For a moment of relaxation, the local thermal baths (onsen) provide a pleasant experience, especially those located on higher ground that offer an unobstructed view of Mount Fuji.
I love these kinds of places in Japan. If I had to make a comparison, it would be to Lake Chuzenji in Nikko. I love the calm of the water, the pedal boats, the shops... In autumn, the maple trees make everything even more beautiful. You really get the feeling of having slipped into a pocket of well-being and eternity. The kind of place that is good for the soul and where you can see why it might have inspired artists.
