Visiting the Museo de Málaga

A diverse and extensive collection

The Museo de Málaga, opened in 2016, has quickly become a cultural cornerstone in the city center. Housed in a former Renaissance palace, it holds a collection that ranges from antiquities to modern art. With over 2,000 pieces, you can explore works by local artists alongside heavyweights of Spanish painting. Be sure to look for the paintings inspired by the Andalusian school, which reflect the region's deep artistic history, including pieces by Goya, Picasso in his early years, Sorolla, and Velazquez.

Architecture and atmosphere

The museum architecture is just as compelling as the art inside. The building blends historic features with modern updates, creating a bright and airy space. Walking through the galleries, you can appreciate the architectural details while taking in the art. The open layout makes for a comfortable visit, even during the peak heat of the summer months.

Activities and events

The museum offers more than just its permanent exhibits. It regularly hosts events, workshops, and lectures that provide a deeper look into Andalusian art and culture. Check the activity calendar before you visit to see what is scheduled. For families, the museum often organizes programs tailored to children, making it an engaging stop for all ages.

Interesting collection in a lovely building

Relatively new museum that contains artwork and craft objects found locally at archaeological sites. Interesting without being a must-see, you will learn quite a bit about the eventful history of Andalusia.
