Nestled at an altitude of 380 meters, Husseren-les-Châteaux is a very old Alsatian village of about 400 residents, and it is the highest point in the Alsace vineyard area. The view over the Rhine plain all the way to the horizon of the Black Forest is splendid. Vines surround this typical regional village. Once you have enjoyed a glass of white wine there, Husseren-les-Châteaux is a great starting point for discovering the picturesque Route of the Five Castles. If you like old stone structures, I recommend traveling this route, which is about 10 kilometers long. On your way, you will find the Three Castles of Haut-Eguisheim, the Hohlandsbourg Castle, and finally the ruins of Pflixbourg castle in the heart of the forest. Access is free for some of them, with parking available. The Three Castles of Haut-Eguisheim are the most interesting to visit (it is free). The ruins are in perfect condition, and the view over the Alsace plain is breathtaking on a clear day.
