The Museum of the School of Nancy, housed in the former estate of patron Eugène Corbin, celebrates the Art Nouveau movement of Nancy. Explore authentic interiors filled with furniture, glassware, and ceramics by Gallé, Majorelle, Daum, and Gruber. The visit concludes in a historic garden featuring rare Art Nouveau structures, including a unique glass pavilion.

I am not a big car enthusiast, or even one at all. I went there on a rainy day, basically to check out an exhibit on motorcycles and cinema. I ended up spending the whole afternoon there. A very pleasant surprise. Discovering the evolution of a means of transport, the automobile, which revolutionized the entire world, was particularly interesting. Organized by theme and universe, subjects like sports and transportation are covered. Some cars are true works of art. Do not hesitate, even if the automotive world does not excite you like it didn't excite me!

Located right behind the train station, the Centre Pompidou-Metz doesn't have much in common with its Parisian older sibling. Its unique architecture is worth a look, even if you aren't a fan of contemporary art. From the third floor, the museum offers a pretty view of the city. On the other hand, the collections and especially the temporary exhibits on display didn't really excite me. It is better to check them out in advance. I found the place interesting to see, but I didn't stay very long. I would recommend the Musee de la Cour d'Or instead if you are short on time.

This museum is a must-see stop in Metz. Built over ancient baths, it offers a very rich collection of works from the Roman Empire, including sculptures, funeral steles, and a beautiful gladiator mosaic. I loved the granary room with its vaulted ceilings, as well as the small interior cloister.
On the other hand, I was a little disappointed by the painting collection. Very few rooms are dedicated to it, even if they do allow you to briefly discover the Metz school of art.
The museum also includes a small biodiversity pavilion, which is useful for teaching children about protecting species. Plan on about 2 hours for the visit.

Located in the beautiful setting of an old convent, this very rich museum is not to be missed if you visit Colmar. It houses the famous Isenheim Altarpiece, but also an impressive collection of paintings and sculptures from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, decorative art objects, and even a few Monets and Picassos that I had never seen before. Unfortunately, because the signage is not clear, you get a little lost in the succession of rooms.

I was a little disappointed by the Villa Majorelle, which only has three rooms on display, but the Museum of the School of Nancy really blew me away! I discovered the artists who founded this movement, especially Emile Gallé. I loved the magnificent dining room at the end of the ground floor, as well as the "Dawn and Dusk" bed with its dragonfly woodwork on the first floor. If you are interested in decorative arts, definitely do not miss this museum. Plus, the garden and the building are lovely. Plan on a good hour for your visit.

I really liked this immersion into the Franco-German folklore. I finished the tour in an hour and left with a better understanding of Alsatian domestic and societal life. The museum is not a must-see, but I recommend it for its typical setting and its unique collections in the city.

I love the Nancy Aquarium Museum. On the ground floor, you can see fish of all varieties. Some of them are very impressive. On the second floor, a natural history collection is on display with a lot of animals. It can get pretty crowded on the weekends. If you can, try to go during the week instead.

The Museum of the School of Nancy is entirely dedicated to Art Nouveau. Actually, you will be visiting a typical house from that era, complete with Art Nouveau furniture and lighting. In the spring and summer, the garden is very pleasant. I recommend pairing this visit with the Villa Majorelle. In fact, the museum sells tickets that combine both visits.
Will appeal to all art lovers

Located on the Place Stanislas, the Museum of Fine Arts is beautiful from the outside. Inside, it spans several levels. I really loved the Daum collection in the basement. You will need at least two hours if you want to see everything. Just so you know, the museum is free to visit on the first Sunday of every month.
