The Tuol Sleng Museum, or S-21, formerly known as Security Prison 21 under the Khmer Rouge regime, is a former torture center. I recommend that anyone interested in the history of Cambodia try to go there. However, I definitely do not recommend that sensitive people or children venture there. Throughout the visit, photos of the faces of the genocide victims are on display, along with frank and realistic paintings that do not hide the horror of this tragedy, and a film is shown. The floors are stained, and in every room you can see the beds where men and women were tied up, and the chains and bars are still present. It is true that when you want to visit the Angkor site, it is much easier to stay in the city of Siem Reap. But the city itself is worth the trip! It is a lively city where you can easily find food, enjoy the music, and soak up the atmosphere. The markets, which are very large, are also very pleasant to explore. It is a city of light where you can have fun, get some rest, or just come with the sole purpose of visiting Angkor, the sublime Khmer city. Siem Reap offers many possibilities to travelers, whatever their reasons for visiting. This immense square is home to many temples, each one taller and more beautiful than the last. It is a stunning site, a must-see if you go to Kathmandu! Unfortunately, I believe many of these temples and the surrounding sculptures were destroyed by the 2015 earthquakes. However, the Nepalese people, helped by certain NGOs, are trying to get back on their feet, particularly by rebuilding the damaged sites and homes, brick by brick. I remain hopeful that one day Durbar Square will look like the description above once again.

This tiny Orthodox church is located right next to the monastery of the same name, and between the two is a magnificent little courtyard lined with pretty flowers and plants. (The monks were playing religious chants when I walked in.) And the facade of the church is simply superb, adorned with arabesques, colorful, and all intricate. The interior is covered in gilding. You can sometimes catch ceremonies if you are lucky. The church is located at the very end of a street, which is less busy than the others, quiet, and surrounded by trees. Bucharest is a city that doesn't get enough credit, and yet I felt completely transported during my time there. The historic center is beautiful and so lively in the summer. Everyone rushes to the outdoor terraces, and you get swept up in the laughter of the Romanian youth. As for the architecture, it is worth the trip. The Orthodox churches are stunning and the monasteries have a magical charm. The colorful houses catch the light so well that you cannot take your eyes off their facades.
