Where to stay in Figueres: the best neighbourhoods (2026)
Several travelers in our community use the exact same words without reading each other first. Amidst a Costa Brava overrun by tourist traps, Figueres remains an authentic Catalan town with actual residents and daily markets. People stay the night just as much for that local pulse as for Dalí.
The Dalí Theatre-Museum does not require booking a specific time slot, but it closes on Mondays from October 1 to June 30. Your arrival day matters more than which neighborhood you pick, especially since you can walk across town in 20 minutes. Here are 3 areas, stretching from the museum out to the highway.
During a road trip from Barcelona, we stopped in Figueres for a single night with one main goal: visiting the Dalí museum, dedicated to an artist who was truly larger than life.

The historic center, right by the museum The old town and the Rambla
Catch some Dalí and walk to dinner
This is the Figueres our members vouch for: pedestrian squares, local markets, and outdoor café terraces where you hear Catalan spoken all around. The Dalí Theatre-Museum takes over the former municipal theater, instantly recognizable by its giant eggs on the roof, and hotels in this neighborhood sit no more than 320 meters from the entrance. One member suggests setting aside 2 hours to get through the entire collection. The Dalí birthplace is just 350 meters away, a detail most visitors miss entirely. The downside to this dense core: the streets are tight and parking requires patience.
Figueres delivers an old town that immerses you straight into Spanish culture, architecture, and everyday life. Unlike the nearby beach resorts, you actually feel like you are traveling through Spain, just a few kilometers south of the French border.
What to see & do in the area
Where to stay in this area
Hotel Duran Luxury
A 65-room 4-star hotel on rue Lasauca, located 274 meters from the museum. A local landmark known for its dining room.
Hotel Plaza Inn Mid-range
A 28-room 3-star hotel on Pujada del Castell, located 131 meters from the museum. No other rated property sits closer.
Hotel Los Ángeles Budget
A 34-room 2-star hotel on rue Barceloneta, located 184 meters from the museum. The top-rated budget pick in the historic center.
Pros
- The museum sits under 320 meters from the hotels
- Pedestrian squares and markets are right in the same zone
- The Dalí birthplace is 350 meters away
Cons
- Narrow alleys and hard-to-find parking
- The area gets packed during peak museum hours
- Small properties mean limited rooms that sell out fast
Salvador Dalí Avenue The hotel corridor south of the center
A larger room, a 10-minute walk away
The avenue named after the painter gathers the town's largest hotels, and the reason is straightforward: it is the main driving route into town. You get more room to breathe here than downtown, parking is available, and you can walk to the museum in 10 minutes, covering 460 to 600 meters depending on the address. Two of the town's four 4-star hotels sit on this avenue. The trade-off is leaving the narrow streets behind for a busy, characterless thoroughfare.

Sercotel President Luxury
A 4-star hotel with 77 rooms on avenue Salvador Dalí, 463 metres from the museum. The largest rated capacity in Figueres.
Hotel Pirineos Mid-range
A 4-star hotel with 53 rooms a bit further up the same avenue, 597 metres from the museum. A long-standing family spot with a pool.

Pros
- The town's largest room capacities
- On-site parking, something downtown properties lack
- The museum remains a 10-minute walk away
Cons
- A busy avenue with little charm
- You have to head back toward the center for dinner
- No property in town exceeds 4 stars
The exit roads and the two train stations The ring road, between Vilafant and the road to Roses
Heading out early toward Barcelona or the coast
Many visitors only pass through, and this area fits them: you arrive late, park without circling the block, and leave at dawn. A detail that the town's reputation distorts is that the two stations sit close to the center. The conventional station sits 871 metres from the museum, and the Vilafant station, served by high-speed rail, sits 1,431 metres away. The gap between them is 560 metres, which hardly justifies picking your hotel based on the station. The catch here is straightforward: reaching the museum and restaurants requires a car or a serious walk.

Our tips for booking the right place
- Mondays, and the museum closed: Plan this first. The Dalí Theatre-Museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from October 1st to June 30th, so it is closed on Mondays for ten months of the year. It only opens every day in July and August, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. It also closes on January 1st and December 25th. A member suggests planning for 2 hours on site; aim for opening time if you visit in the summer, when the town gets the most visitors.
- The ticket, cheaper online: Reservations are not required and no specific time slot is enforced, unlike at other major sites. Booking ahead is still the better deal, running 18.50 EUR online compared to 20.50 EUR at the ticket counter, and the rate climbs to 22 or 24 EUR in the summer. The museum also hosts evening openings in the summer. Grab your ticket the night before from your room, as this will not win you a time slot, just savings and a skipped line.
- The two stations, without the advertised trap: Figueres has two train stations and people often warn you to watch out for them. The actual measurements tell a different story: the conventional station is 871 meters from the museum, and the Vilafant station, served by high-speed rail, is 1,431 meters away. You can walk to both, and only 560 meters separate them. Choose your hotel based on the neighborhood, not the station. If you have heavy luggage, just grab a taxi from Vilafant.
- Scheduling Figueres on a Monday between October and June: the museum is closed, which is why nearly all our members come here.
- Expecting Figueres to be a beach town: the sea starts 20 kilometers away, and the inland vibe is precisely what our members come here to find.
- Hoping for a dorm bed: the Catalonia tourism registry lists no youth hostels here. The entry-level option is a 1 or 2-star hotel.
