Where to stay in Les Epesses: the best neighbourhoods (2026)
At Les Epesses the question is not which district but which side of the fence. Puy du Fou has six themed hotels inside its grounds, minutes from the shows; the surrounding bocage offers guesthouses, a château and a campsite, ten minutes away by car.
What settles it is how long you stay. One Avygeo member who slept inside says two days on site spared him any frustration; another points out that outside you find places to sleep and eat for less. Beware the comparison: park hotels are sold as packages, tickets included, never as a bare room.
Les Epesses have, in my view, one main appeal: their ideal location right next to Puy du Fou. It is really practical for making the most of the park without long journeys.

Six themed hotels, some seven hundred rooms, each recreating a period: a Merovingian village on stilts, a Renaissance canvas camp, a Roman villa, a Grand Siècle residence. You sleep minutes from the shows, go back between performances, and park access is often early. The catch: everything is booked as a package with the tickets, price comparison becomes impossible, and one member finds these sets « imitate the imitations ».
We stayed in one of the park's hotels (Le Grand Siècle) and had two days to make the most of it. That meant I didn't feel frustrated, because I was able to do every single activity on offer.

The Sun King's residence, the newest and largest of the six, with a courtyard and four-poster beds. It is the one named by the member who managed to see everything in two days.
Les Îles de Clovis Mid-range
Houses on stilts set above a pond, linked by walkways, in a Merovingian village setting. The most disorienting for children, and one of the first to open.
Le Camp du Drap d'Or Mid-range
Canvas tent-rooms in white and gold, lined up as at the camp of François I, with a real bed and a real bathroom. The compromise between bivouac and hotel.

The bocage around the park At Les Epesses, Chanverrie and Les Herbiers
to pay less and sleep in the quiet
A bocage of hedgerows, farms and small roads, with the village of Les Epesses two kilometres from the entrance, Chanverrie and its château a little further, and Les Herbiers ten minutes away. Here you find guesthouses, gîtes, a four-star campsite and two hotels, at rates that bear no relation to the park's. The catch: you need the car for everything, including the drive back after the Cinéscénie, which ends late.
Pretty cute, green village where you can find lodging and places to eat for less than at Puy du Fou.

Château-Hôtel Le Boisniard Luxury
A fifteenth-century château in its park, ten minutes from Puy du Fou, with a spa and contemporary rooms in the outbuildings. The address for turning a park visit into a weekend in its own right.
Domaine de Mélusine Mid-range
A four-star campsite at Les Epesses, with a pool and rental units, minutes from the entrance. It is not a hotel, and that is the point: it is the cheapest family option in the immediate area.
Hôtel Aloe Mid-range
A hotel-restaurant on the Cholet road at Les Herbiers, ten minutes from the park. No particular charm, but parking, a restaurant and provincial rates.

Our tips for booking the right place
- Two days change the nature of the stay: Several Avygeo members say the same thing: one day is not enough. One advises allowing two days to see all the performances; another recounts that two days on site let him do everything without frustration. It is that calculation, not comfort, that should decide between sleeping inside the park or outside: for two full days the inside makes sense; for a one-day visit the bocage costs markedly less.
- The Cinéscénie is booked separately, and ends late: The great night show is not included in the park ticket: several members point this out, it is booked separately and runs only on certain evenings. It finishes late, which bears directly on where you sleep: from a gîte in the bocage you drive back at night on small roads. From a park hotel you walk. That is the most concrete argument for staying inside.
- What is free, and what is not: One member notes that the approaches to the park include reconstructed villages with free access, complete with houses, streets and craft workshops. Conversely, another warns not to expect fairground rides: Puy du Fou is a park of shows, not attractions, and several members who arrived with the opposite idea say so. Bring comfortable shoes and a plan made in advance: performances run to fixed times and fill up.
- Booking a park hotel for a single day's visit: the stay is sold with the tickets and assumes two days to be worth it. For one day, a guesthouse in the bocage does the same job at a completely different price.
- Choosing a gîte twenty or thirty kilometres out without thinking about the drive back from the Cinéscénie: the show ends late, bocage roads are narrow and unlit, and it takes time to clear the park exit.
- Counting on the village of Les Epesses for a late dinner: it is a town of two thousand people, restaurants close early out of season, and most of the offer is inside the park or at Les Herbiers.
