While passing through the area, we took an afternoon to explore the region, and more specifically the Carnac Stones. Upon arriving at the site, we quickly realized that a guided tour was a must. Without one, it is impossible to get close to the stones, feel the atmosphere of the place, or realize the massive task it took to create this site. There was plenty of space since we were not there in high season, but I recommend booking in advance during peak season and bringing a small bottle of water when it is hot out.

This site has a really unique atmosphere, almost mystical. I opted for a guided tour that I found super interesting and thorough. I think it is the way to go. Don't hesitate to walk around the area, the landscapes are spectacular.

Even though I wasn't a huge fan of the city of Arles itself, which I found pretty dirty, the amphitheater is a must see. This monument right in the center is really well preserved and stands out in the landscape. The tour is very interesting and offers a nice view of the surroundings.

I was really intrigued by the Carnac Stones, but I have to admit I was left a bit underwhelmed. The stones are impressive because of their number and their age, but you mostly observe them from a distance because of the fences protecting the site. Because of that, it is hard to fully feel the mystery you imagine when looking at photos. The landscape is still very pretty and the walk is nice, so I do recommend it anyway, as something to do at least once in your life.

I was spellbound by the Carnac alignments! It is very impressive to see, but also to feel because of the mystery and legends that surround the stones. I felt like I was walking through a sacred place. Three sites are accessible, Le Menec, Kermario, and Kerlescan. I highly recommend taking a guided tour to better understand the archaeology and the myths of these incredible structures. Additionally, I visited the Museum of Prehistory in Carnac, which provides rich explanations on how the megaliths were built.

Visiting the Lascaux cave (which is certainly not the real one, but where the atmosphere is faithfully reproduced) is something unique. When you think about the fact that the drawings are over 20,000 years old, it makes your head spin! Other areas, which are more museum-like, allow you to learn more about this place and its history. I highly recommend this visit, which is suitable for families as well as solo travelers.

The Carnac stones are simply fascinating. Walking among these thousands of aligned stones is a unique experience, at once mysterious and impressive. The site is well set up with paths and explanatory signs, and some beautiful hikes nearby allow you to discover the surrounding landscapes. After the visit, it is nice to stop and enjoy a crepe!

The most obscure part of Arles' ancient history. A fascinating discovery that made me fully appreciate the ingenuity of our ancestors. This crypt stretches out under the entire city. It goes without saying that this is a vast and impressive place. A visit that is a nice change of pace and makes you feel like an explorer. It is cool down there, so it is definitely something to do in the summer!

The price is included in the visit to the arena. Otherwise, you can see it from the outside. If you have the chance, I still recommend visiting it. It is a fairly large theater, though unfortunately, not everything has been preserved. The visit is pretty quick. Nevertheless, it has the advantage of being close to all the other tourist spots, which makes it easy to include in your itinerary.

In a fairly open area and well displayed, this is a monument you can admire from every angle! The arena is in a great state of preservation. I really loved walking around the stands and seeing the steps worn down by the centuries (be careful, they are not very even). It is a shame, though, because the site deserves to be highlighted a bit more!
