Face-to-face with Ramesses II, right in the shadow of the pyramids
Right from the grand entrance hall, a colossal statue of Ramesses II, standing eleven meters tall and weighing one hundred tons, welcomes every visitor. The entire building was designed to frame sweeping views of the Giza pyramids, which are visible directly through the expansive glass walls.
Why visit the Grand Musée Égyptien
The museum displays 100,000 artifacts distributed across eighty rooms, making it the largest museum in the world dedicated to ancient Egypt. The project, awarded following an international design competition launched in 2002 to Dublin-based Heneghan Peng Architects and constructed by the Franco-Belgian group BESIX starting in 2006, required over two decades of construction before opening in October 2024 and officially inaugurating on November 1, 2025.
Tutankhamun's treasure reunited for the very first time
The galleries dedicated to Tutankhamun showcase more than 5,000 objects discovered in 1922 by the archaeologist Howard Carter in the young king's tomb for the first time. Highlights include his golden burial mask, ceremonial chair, and gilded coffin, which were previously scattered across several different institutions.
A museum built with accessibility and comfort in mind
All exhibition halls are fully air-conditioned, which is a major plus in the Egyptian climate. The museum was also engineered to be wheelchair accessible, featuring ramps, elevators, and wide corridors throughout.

Galleries: Daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (until 9:00 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays).
Complex (gardens, cafes, shops): Daily from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM (until 10:00 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays).
Last entry one hour before the galleries close.

Plan for at least half a day to see the main collections at the Grand Musée Égyptien, and a full day if you want to explore all the galleries in detail.
