Face to face with Ramses II, in the shadow of the pyramids
Right from the grand entrance hall, a colossal statue of Ramses II standing eleven meters tall and weighing one hundred tons greets every visitor. The entire building was designed to offer unobstructed views of the Giza pyramids, which are visible directly through its expansive glass windows.
Why visit the Grand Egyptian Museum
The museum displays 100,000 artifacts spread across eighty rooms, making it the largest museum in the world dedicated to ancient Egypt. The project, awarded following an international competition launched in 2002 to the firm Heneghan Peng Architects and built by the Franco-Belgian group BESIX starting in 2006, required over twenty years of construction before opening in October 2024 and officially welcoming visitors on November 1, 2025.
The treasure of Tutankhamun united for the first time
The galleries dedicated to Tutankhamun showcase more than 5,000 objects discovered in 1922 by archaeologist Howard Carter in the young king's tomb for the very first time. Highlights include his golden funerary mask, his ceremonial chair, and his gilded coffin, which were previously split among multiple institutions.
A museum built for accessibility and comfort
All exhibition halls are fully air-conditioned, a welcome feature under the Egyptian sun. The museum was also engineered to be wheelchair accessible, featuring ramps, elevators, and wide corridors throughout.

Galleries: Daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (until 9:00 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays).
Complex (gardens, cafes, shops): Daily from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM (until 10:00 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays).
Last entry one hour before the galleries close.
How long for this activity
Plan for at least half a day to see the main collections at the Grand Musée Égyptien, and a full day if you want to explore all the galleries in detail.
