Honestly, have you ever heard of this museum? Probably not. When we talk about Algiers, or Algeria in general, we rarely talk about the treasures that this country hides (intentionally or not?). Very beautiful building surrounded by a magnificent garden. Very interesting collections to discover, even if they are not always very complete.

Not far from the souks and the overwhelming hustle and bustle, this is an interesting cultural stop. Certainly, it is not the most remarkable site in the city, but I liked the palace architecture and its imposing patio. I also admired the huge lamp that sits in the middle of the palace and the collection of Moroccan art. The exhibitions in this museum are temporary.

Located in a restored riad, this museum offers a superb panorama of the history of Marrakech. Here, black and white prints cover the walls of the beautiful building. The photos show the evolution of the city, admire the medina at the beginning of the 20th century. I especially loved the portraits of the locals, in short a wonderful place.

The National Museum of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam is an interesting stop to understand the history, culture, and biodiversity of the country. The exhibits are varied. You will find archaeological artifacts, fossils, traditional masks, and even information on human evolution. The museum is fairly small, so a visit of 1 to 2 hours is more than enough. It is a good starting point if you want to better grasp the local context before heading out to explore Tanzania. The staff is welcoming, and the explanations are clear, even if there could be a few more signs or translations.

You share a moment, not just a visit. The dances, the stories around the fire, the traditional huts, everything rings true. You discover their daily life without it being staged. It is simple, human, respectful. A real encounter, not a show. It makes you want to better understand their culture, without the clichés.

Meeting the Maasai in Tanzania is like diving into an ancestral culture. A beautiful experience. I spent one night in their camp, in a hut made of mud, branches, and grass. It was at the Olpopongi village. The comfort is basic but authentic. I was also able to watch traditional Maasai dances and try my hand at archery. Because of their colorful clothing, they are a very recognizable population. But beyond the way they dress, the Maasai of Tanzania impressed me with their deep harmony with nature. Living in the heart of the savanna, the Maasai coexist with wild animals, respecting their territory. Their semi-nomadic lifestyle is guided by the seasons and the herds.

Tunisia is mostly known as an inexpensive beach destination, but that shouldn't make you forget the country's very rich history. To learn more about the art and craftsmanship of ancient Carthage, you should definitely check out the Bardo National Museum. You will find a really beautiful collection of mosaics there, all housed in a superb palace.

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo is a must-see before or after visiting the Pyramids. You can easily spend half a day there. Having a guide is essential to hit the highlights. For kids, discovering sarcophagi and mummies is unforgettable. I had just seen the beautiful Tutankhamun exhibition in Paris beforehand and it was a perfect complement. The building and facilities were a bit outdated, and a new museum opened its doors in 2024.

I went there based on the recommendations of Algerian friends who came along with me. This is a real art museum, with a lot of paintings and sculptures to see. Traditional European artists are exhibited there, but also, what I found interesting, Algerian artists like Mohamed Racim. I felt that my friends were proud to show me local creations. I am thrilled that Algeria takes care to value its artistic heritage :) Good to know: The signs describing the artworks are written in Arabic and French. Go take a walk on the terrace, the view of the Jardin d'Essai and the Martyrs' Memorial is splendid.
