Visiting Ribeirão do Meio Falls in the heart of the Chapada Diamantina
Just a few miles from the center of Lençóis, Ribeirão do Meio Falls provides a convenient spot for an accessible excursion within the Chapada Diamantina. With its natural pools and rock slide, this area is a favorite for travelers looking to swim and relax in a natural setting.
An easy hike to the falls
To reach the site, you will follow a well-marked, relatively flat trail of about 4 km (roughly 2.5 miles). The path winds through the forest, offering enough shade to make the walk comfortable even in the heat. Along the way, you may encounter vendors selling cold drinks and local snacks.
A unique natural slide
One of the primary draws of Ribeirão do Meio is the massive rock slab polished smooth by the water, which functions as a genuine natural slide. The more adventurous can slide for several meters before splashing into a clear pool below. The area is generally safe, but it is wise to test the rock surface before sliding to avoid any issues.
A spot for swimming and relaxing
Several natural pools surround the falls, perfect for a quick dip. The water, while slightly tinted by regional sediments, remains clear and comfortable for swimming. The surrounding rocks provide plenty of space to stretch out and soak up the sun. Since the site is popular with both locals and visitors, heading out in the morning is your best bet for a quieter experience.
Just 3.5 km from the center of Lençóis, accessible by a nice little trail. You can swim in the rock pools and go for a big slide down the waterfall!
