Adventure and thrills at Europa-Park, the top theme park in Europe!

Europa-Park is the best destination in Europe for anyone chasing an adrenaline rush. Founded in 1975, this unique theme park in Germany sits just a stone's throw from Strasbourg and the French border. It was originally envisioned and designed by Franz Mack and his son Roland Mack, the leaders of the German ride manufacturing firm Mack Rides. The park was built as a real-world showcase and testing ground for their designs. The concept has certainly proven its worth. This 95-hectare leisure complex saw over 5 million visitors in 2022, making it the second most visited theme park in Europe, right behind Disneyland Paris.

A fantastic leisure park in Germany

A trip to Europa-Park means preparing for an extraordinary adventure, with over 100 attractions and shows for both kids and adults. The resort also boasts a solid hotel selection with six four-star and five-star properties. A massive water park, Rulantica, also opened to the public in 2019.

Europa-Park: the record-breaking park

Since its inception, Europa-Park has always aimed high. This German theme park has become a true global benchmark in the leisure industry. Proof of this: between 2014 and 2022, it was ranked the best theme park in the world by the American magazine Amusement Today. Furthermore, Europa-Park has earned numerous distinctions from the Themed Entertainment Association (THEA), an internationally recognized organization in the entertainment world.

With a total of 13 roller coasters and rides that break various speed records, Europa-Park remains a leader in the entertainment industry. The innovations developed at the park span several fields including technology, storytelling, engineering, and audiovisual design. For several years, the complex has been developing a set of immersive virtual reality experiences through a range of rides labeled Coastiality.

The best roller coasters at Europa-Park

Europa-Park is the number one destination in Europe for anyone who loves speed and a good scare.

To live up to that reputation, the park has set the bar high. It features about a dozen roller coasters in total. Each one offers a number of airtimes, those moments where you feel yourself lift out of your seat, along with top speeds and height records. Whether you are a daredevil for a day or a lifelong thrill-seeker, you will definitely find a ride to your liking.

Here are a few examples of the most iconic attractions at Europa-Park:

  • The SilverStar: Located in the France themed area, it is one of the tallest and largest steel roller coasters in the world, reaching an altitude of up to 73 meters. A nice tribute to Gustave Eiffel, perhaps?

  • The Blue Fire Megacoaster: Sporting the colors of Iceland, this coaster delivers exceptional performance. Among these is a launch from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and the highest looping of any roller coaster in Europe.

  • The Wodan Timburcoaster: Between tight turns and 100 km/h acceleration, this wooden roller coaster is one of the must-dos at Europa-Park.

  • Euromir: Its spinning cars were for a long time among the best innovations brought to a roller coaster in Europe and the world.

  • The Eurosat Cancan Coaster: You will find the French section of Europa-Park in this cult dark ride, created in 1989 inside a geodesic dome. The ride was recently redecorated in the colors of Montmartre and now displays a very Belle Epoque Parisian style.

New attractions at Europa-Park

Note that a new roller coaster scheduled for 2024 promises some great discoveries. Named Voltron Nevera by Rimac, this future ride will be 1,385 meters long and feature seven loopings. It is simple: it is the longest looping roller coaster in Europe. This extraordinary attraction marks the opening of a new themed area at Europa-Park, entirely dedicated to Croatia.

Additionally, the first roller coaster at Europa-Park is set to receive new Coastiality technology that should fascinate many. Equipped with a virtual reality headset, you will combine the physical thrills of the ride with fabulous virtual images that will transport you into a parallel world.

Tour Europe in a single day!

Beyond its iconic rides, Europa-Park allows you to travel across Europe during a stay with family or friends. Composed of 17 European themed areas and 3 fantasy areas, the best theme park in Europe opens the doors to the continent and its culture. Marvel at the fabulous sets and have fun spotting the many nods to one European country or another.

Themed neighborhoods to explore at Europa-Park

During your stay at Europa-Park, you will be surprised by the number of animations that reference the characteristics of different European countries. You can also enjoy a particularly varied culinary range that highlights the entire gastronomic diversity of the continent.

Here are some iconic attractions and themed areas you should not miss during your visit to Europa-Park:

  • The spinning tea cups, Dutch neighborhood: their patterns recall the delicacy of Delft pottery and its characteristic blue.

  • The flying machines of Leonardo da Vinci, Italian neighborhood: a reference to the famous sketches by the Italian artist who, as early as the 15th century, conceived drawings of very futuristic flying machines.

  • The medieval Balthasar castle, German neighborhood, built in 1442 and acquired by the park.

  • The Bobsleigh run, Swiss neighborhood, which traverses a landscape of chalets characteristic of the mountains of Valais.

  • The two carousels in the Spanish neighborhood: the Galleons of Columbus and Feria Swing, whose Moorish-inspired decorations evoke the majestic heritage of Seville and all of Andalusia.

  • The Liechtenstein path and its hot air balloons: a miniature reproduction of the iconic trail that crosses the 11 municipalities of one of the smallest countries in Europe.

  • Fjord Rafting, Scandinavian neighborhood: to experience a rafting adventure beyond the Arctic Circle.

To get an overview of the immensity of the theme park, do not hesitate to hop on the Panoramabahn, a small panoramic train that circles the park in fifteen minutes. You can also choose to climb the Euro Tower: at a height of 75 meters, it gives you a 360-degree view of the park and all its attractions.

What to do with the family at Europa-Park?

Despite its reputation as an extreme thrill park, Europa-Park has numerous rides for children and teenagers. Some areas even feature the world of fairy tales and legends of yesterday and today, such as Grimm's Fairy Tales, Arthur and the Invisibles, Fina and the Yomis, or even Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Find the Yomis, those mischievous little goblins, in the Austrian neighborhood and venture to the gates of the themed area of the Kingdom of the Invisibles.

On the entertainment side, you will not be disappointed, with a very rich program appealing to a wide audience. 4D animated films, a winter circus, puppet shows, and magic tricks are on the schedule. Do not miss visiting Europa-Park for Halloween or during the Christmas season to admire the fabulous decorations and parades organized for these occasions.

The little ones will also find their place at Europa-Park, which has all the necessary infrastructure for a successful family stay. The Irish neighborhood and its lovely green landscapes feature numerous playgrounds, slides, and swings adapted for the youngest adventurers. Only focus on having fun: bumper cars, ball pits, and train or boat rides are also waiting for you.

A must-do with friends!

I only went to Europa-Park once with some friends and I loved it, especially the concept of the themed areas inspired by different European countries, with specific architecture and vibes. The rides don't disappoint either, especially the impressive roller coasters like Silver Star. Despite the crowds, the park stays clean and is nice to walk around.

A must-do if you are in the area

Really great park that mixes different styles for everyone to enjoy. Made up of many "lands" representing the different countries of Europe, it is easy to travel from one country to another in just a few meters. The immersion is great! So, what are we eating for lunch today: Italian, French, Greek...! Just like with the countries, you can go from a coaster to a magic show pretty easily. The staff, who often speak French, are very friendly. The price for a family trip stings a little, but the cost is quickly forgotten as soon as you arrive.

My favorite theme park

I highly recommend Europa-Park. Being close to the border, it is easily accessible. It has many thrill rides that will appeal to adrenaline junkies, but also calmer attractions for those who are a bit less brave. If possible, go during the Halloween season, as the park is decorated especially well.

A great day with friends

This park has a reputation for having the scariest roller coasters in Europe. I haven't tried every theme park in Europe, but this seemed pretty standard to me.
But hey, we still had an excellent day with friends

Get your fill of thrills

With its decor inspired by different European countries, it is above all a theme park that offers roller coasters and rides that will really get your adrenaline pumping. A little less positive: it is very crowded! I was not expecting that, given that there are no big cities in the immediate vicinity.

The best park in eastern France

Located in Germany but super close to the Alsace border, it is hands down the best theme park in the region. A must-do if you want a great day out with friends or family.

A very complete park

There are different types of activities to do in this theme park and there is something for everyone, including thrill rides, calmer rides, and shows to see.
Regarding the rides, I loved the Silver Star, one of the tallest and fastest roller coasters in Europe, as well as the Euro-Mir, a thrill ride that offers a stunning view of the park.
The shows on offer were also good quality, mixing acrobatics, music, and special effects.

The different zones of the park represent various European countries, with quite a few nice little details to discover in the scenery.
