Plage de Lindos à Rhodes

The bay beneath the acropolis, where turquoise water meets ancient cliffs

An acropolis perched on a rocky promontory, a crescent of golden sand, and water of an almost unreal blue: this is what awaits you as you descend toward the bay. Lindos Beach sits at the foot of the medieval village of the same name, on the east coast of Rhodes, in the Dodecanese archipelago.

Why visit Lindos Beach?

What sets this beach apart from the island's countless coves is the backdrop. From the sand, your eyes naturally drift upward to the acropolis of Lindos, with its Doric temple and medieval fortifications looming more than 100 meters above the water. Few beaches in Greece offer such a dramatic intersection of nature and history.

The bay is also known for its shallow, calm water across much of the area, a major perk for families traveling with children. The seafloor is mostly sandy, with some pebbly patches near the edges.

A lively beach, not a secluded escape

Don't expect total solitude here. The fame of Lindos draws a crowd, especially in July and August, and the beach fills up quickly with sun loungers and umbrellas packed tightly together. The vibe is high-energy, filled with beachside tavernas and roaming vendors.

Water sports are well-established here. Jet-skiing, paddleboarding, and parasailing are regular sights in the bay during the season, making this a spot for travelers looking for action rather than quiet reflection.

Two beaches, two vibes

Many visitors overlook the fact that Lindos actually has two distinct beaches separated by the rocky promontory of the acropolis. The large main beach, which is the most popular, faces the village. On the other side of the headland lies the smaller Saint Paul's Beach, a more intimate cove framed by cliffs and accessible by a walking path.

Pro tip: To beat the midday rush, arrive early in the morning before the tour groups arrive to visit the acropolis. The low-angle light on the citadel is also much better for photos at that hour.

Pros

  • Exceptional view of the acropolis from the sand
  • Shallow water, ideal for children
  • Numerous tavernas and amenities in the immediate vicinity

Cons

  • Very crowded in high season, with tightly packed sun loungers
  • Tourist-heavy and noisy, not ideal for quiet seekers

Opening hours

Lindos Beach is a public natural area that is freely accessible 24/7 all year round.

Associated services, such as the rental of beach chairs and umbrellas, are generally available from May through October, typically from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, depending on weather conditions and seasonal crowds.

How long for this activity

Plan on half a day to enjoy a swim and the scenery, or a full day if you combine the beach with a visit to the village and the acropolis.

Very beautiful beach

Lindos Beach is one of the most beautiful in Rhodes. It is one of the few fine sand beaches you will find there. The beach is quite large and well-maintained. You have the option to rent lounge chairs for a very reasonable price. Everything you need to spend a great day.
