Visiting the Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien
An immersion in boreal wildlife
Located in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, the Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien stands out for its immersive approach. Unlike traditional zoos, it focuses on boreal fauna and species built for northern climates. You can see polar bears, caribou, lynx, and bison in expansive habitats designed to mimic their natural range.
One of the highlights is the Parc des sentiers de la nature (Nature Trails Park). A ride on a caged train takes you through massive enclosures where animals roam freely. This setup allows you to observe North American wildlife up close while keeping a respectful distance.
Activities for the whole family
The zoo offers plenty for both kids and adults. In the summer, walking trails allow you to explore local species in a quiet setting. Informative signage along the paths provides context on the animals and their ecosystems.
For families, there is a playground and a petting farm. These areas keep younger visitors engaged while teaching them about local biodiversity.
Conservation and education
The Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien prioritizes species conservation and education. Awareness programs run throughout the year, covering topics like climate change and its impact on northern wildlife. Visitors can also join educational presentations led by staff experts.
The zoo remains open during the winter. This provides a different look at how animals handle freezing temperatures, making each season worth a visit.

A must-do if you are visiting Quebec. It is so much more than a zoo. It is actually a park where the animals live in semi-liberty. We went at the beginning of winter, riding in a little train that lets you get close to the animals without disturbing them, all while staying warm under a blanket they provide. Such a great memory in the heart of untouched nature.
