Slide & Splash: The Algarve's aquatic adrenaline fix

Since 1986, the sounds of excitement have echoed across these 25 acres where towering slides and pools define the skyline. As the oldest water park still operating in the region, it has managed to stay relevant by constantly reinventing itself, adding new attractions every year that keep the pulse racing.

More than just a water park

Unlike parks that focus solely on slides, this venue has built a distinct identity. Animal shows punctuate the day, featuring free flying falcons and eagles during falconry demonstrations, macaws with vibrant plumage, and exotic reptiles presented by passionate keepers. These educational breaks offer a welcome change of pace between adrenaline spikes.

The Fish Spa and wellness massage area, managed by Aquafeeling, provides a sharp contrast to the surrounding energy. Located near The Big Wave, this quiet corner allows adults to take a relaxing break while the kids keep tackling the slides.

Must-try attractions

The Big Fall: Aquatic freefall

This capsule, unique in the Algarve, puts thrill-seekers face to face with a sheer drop. After an electric countdown, the floor drops out, sending you into a nearly vertical tube at high speed. The few seconds of freefall provide a pure rush of adrenaline.

Black Hole: Total darkness

This enclosed slide launches you into complete darkness, stripping away all your visual bearings. The inability to anticipate turns and speed increases the intensity. Nervous laughter is guaranteed at the exit.

The Race: Competition with friends

Four lanes allow you to go head to head on this racing slide. A calm start is deceiving before a sudden acceleration through a dark tunnel catapults you onto a curved platform. The collective feeling of flight makes for memorable moments.

Kamikaze Renewal: The timeless classic

Sixty-five feet of nearly vertical descent on a mat at dizzying speeds. This historic, modernized slide retains its ability to terrify even the bravest visitors. Walking up the stairs gives you plenty of time to rethink your decision.

Disco River: A dancing novelty

This lazy river turns a standard concept into a party. Colorful light displays and upbeat music accompany your drift in a tube. It is a guaranteed good time for the whole family.

Relaxation and practical services

The 10 acres of lawn offer plenty of space to spread out a towel for free, though lounge chairs and umbrellas are available for rent at 5 EUR (about $5.50) each. The wave pool provides gentle fun for those looking to cool off without the intensity of the slides. The jacuzzi operates on timed sessions so everyone gets a fair chance to enjoy a soak.

Six restaurants and bars are scattered throughout the park, offering full meals for 8 to 13 EUR (about $9 to $14) such as a burger or pizza with fries and a drink. Picnicking is permitted, which is a great option for larger families looking to save on costs. Secure lockers with QR code systems keep your belongings safe while you explore.

Pro tip: Avoid the first lawn area facing the kids' play zone. Walk to the second green space past the hot dog stand. It is more spacious, less crowded, and closer to the best slides. Use the natural shade of a palm tree instead of renting an umbrella, saving you 5 EUR (about $5.50) for the same result.

Planning your visit

Wait times can reach 30 minutes to an hour for popular slides during peak summer, especially in July and August. Buying tickets online not only provides a discount but also lets you skip the ticket line at the entrance. Arriving at the 10 a.m. opening time gives you a solid head start before the crowds peak.

The park has a capacity of 4,200 people, which explains why the busiest days can feel crowded. Sundays draw more local Portuguese families, while Wednesdays and Thursdays in July are statistically quieter.

As for the rules, jewelry, watches, bracelets, and sunglasses are prohibited on slides for safety reasons. Only swim goggles without metal parts are allowed through the checkpoint. Glass items, balloons, and pets (with the exception of service dogs) are not permitted inside.

Fun and complete, but watch out for crowded days

I have been to this park twice, and the experience is not exactly the same depending on when you go.
- The first time was in early September: super fun, with different types of slides to try alone or with others. An excellent day.
- The second time was in the middle of summer: huge crowds, which meant waiting for every big slide. As a result, I think I went down 2 or 3 times fewer than the first time :(

Aside from that, the staff at the entrance is super present and attentive, so you feel safe.

THE water park of southern Portugal, victim of its own success

I went there with my kids during the summer vacation. In a word, it was good but way too crowded.
I still want to thank the park employees, who were thoughtful with the kids, as is often the case in Portugal.
