Visiting the Metropolitan Natural Park in Panama
The green lungs of the capital
Located just minutes from the city center of Panama City, the Metropolitan Natural Park is a tropical forest reserve rarely found within a major capital. Spanning nearly 265 hectares (about 655 acres), it provides a quiet refuge from urban noise. This park is favored by both locals and travelers for its accessible hiking trails and views of the city and the canal.
Trails for every level
The park features several well-marked paths suitable for hikers. The Los Caobos trail is designed for beginners, while the Mono Titi trail leads to higher elevations with views across Panama City. The main trail heads toward Cerro Cedro, the highest point in the park, which offers a perspective of the canal and its surroundings.
Surprising biodiversity
Despite its proximity to the city, the park supports a diverse range of flora and fauna. You may encounter capuchin monkeys, sloths, and a variety of birds, including toucans and parrots. For nature enthusiasts, it is a practical way to observe local wildlife without leaving Panama City.
Activities and points of interest
Beyond hiking, the park provides picnic areas and observation points to enjoy the natural setting. Guided tours are available to learn about the local ecosystem. The park is a space for families, photography enthusiasts, or travelers seeking a quiet moment in a busy city.
