What to know about Universal Studios Japan

Immersive cinema and attraction worlds

Universal Studios Japan, located in Osaka, is defined by its detailed themed zones based on major movie franchises. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a standout, where guests can tour Hogwarts Castle and grab a butterbeer. Super Nintendo World is a major draw for gamers, featuring immersive rides like Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge. Each area maintains a distinct vibe, from the classic Hollywood aesthetic to the high-energy action of Jurassic Park.

Spectacular shows and rides

The park features a range of entertainment for all ages. Thrill-seekers will want to head straight for roller coasters like Hollywood Dream: The Ride. Live shows such as WaterWorld pack in stunts, pyrotechnics, and practical effects. For families or those looking for a lighter pace, attractions centered on the Minions or classic carousels offer a more relaxed way to enjoy the park.

Food and unique souvenirs

Universal Studios Japan extends its themes into the dining options. You will find carts and restaurants serving character-themed sweets, like those shaped like Minions, alongside localized takes on Japanese snacks. The park shops are stocked with exclusive merchandise, from Harry Potter wands to plush toys of iconic characters, which serve as solid keepsakes from your visit.

Must-visit in Osaka for theme park fans!

No doubt about it, the Universal parks are really impressive and know how to get you in the mood! This one in particular, the rides are truly crazy. Flying Dinosaur is by far my favorite, and Hollywood Dream is incredible too. You really get your fill of roller coasters, but there are also more chill attractions, all set in worlds that are incredibly decorated every time (Harry Potter, Jaws, Jurassic Park...)! One thing to note, the Japanese locals love to wave at you from below while you are on the rides!

Visit your favorite worlds

A must-see for all fans of iconic fictional universes. I am not really into theme parks, but I enjoyed the experience. Everything is done to make you feel like you have stepped into another world. The space is huge. There is something for everyone, from Mario to Harry Potter to Hello Kitty.

Only downside: it is a pretty expensive day out, just like other attractions of this kind in France or elsewhere. Plan on an express pass so you do not have to wait too long.

Get the Express Pass

Universal Studios Japan definitely reminded me of the Universal Studios in Los Angeles, even though it has its own local flair. You can really see that in the Nintendo area, which is hands down my favorite.
Obviously, the crowds are there, especially in high season when the weather is nice. That is why I recommend getting the Express Pass, which is valid for the attractions of your choice so you can skip the lines, but it does double the price of your ticket.

Universal Studios Osaka, an absolute must-do theme park

Mario, Harry Potter, Hello Kitty, Snoopy... a very pleasant theme park that felt huge to me, where, of course, the lines are endless just like in every other theme park. The vibe is super nice, the walkways and restaurants are very clean, and there is a ton of attractions for the whole family. Be careful with the little ones or those who are more sensitive in the stunning Hogwarts castle, it really shakes quite a bit! For Mario, make sure to find out how to book an entry time slot as soon as you arrive. A great time to be had, without a doubt.
