Visiting Salinas Beach
Among the many beaches in Ibiza, the one that defines the island experience is Salinas Beach, also known as Latja de Ses Salines. This stretch of sand is the postcard image of the island, drawing crowds and celebrity sightings alike. Stretching nearly 1500 meters, it ranks as one of the most popular spots on the coast. The beach sits within the Parc Naturel de Ses Salines (Ses Salines Natural Park), a protected area that reaches across the water to Formentera. While the setting is pristine, the atmosphere is high energy.
The most popular beach in Ibiza
When you picture the Balearic Islands, you are likely imagining a place like this. It is a wide, expansive beach with fine white sand, framed by pine trees and shallow, turquoise water. It feels like a slice of paradise on the southern tip of Ibiza. The beach takes its name from the nearby salt marshes where the local white gold was once harvested. If you look closely at the surrounding terrain, you can still spot the old train tracks once used to transport the salt. Today, the beach is known for its social scene rather than industry. During the summer, it gets packed. If you prefer quiet, you might want to skip the crowds here and head to one of the smaller, rocky coves along the coast instead. However, the festive atmosphere is a core part of the island experience. You will find a dense concentration of beach bars and restaurants serving food and music all day. You can even order a cocktail from your lounge chair and have it delivered to the sand. The water here is warm and remarkably clear, making it a hub for water sports. You can rent catamarans at the southern end of the beach. A secluded area is reserved for nudists, and a scenic trail leads from the sand to a watchtower dating back to the Renaissance. This contrast between natural beauty and vibrant nightlife is the essence of Ibiza.
While this beach is stunning with its crystal clear water and white sand, it also attracts a huge crowd. It is the most popular beach in Ibiza and you can really tell. The vibe is festive and lively, maybe a little too much from my point of view. If you want some peace and quiet, just head a bit further away, as you will easily find other beaches. It is not ideal with kids either.
