The island of Huahine has the distinction of remaining authentic and wild, still largely untouched by mass tourism. It’s an island that captivates not only divers with its rich seabed, but also non-divers with its pristine natural surroundings. Fellow divers, let’s explore some of the island’s most beautiful spots.
Fa'a Miti
Located on the northwest side of the island, near the airport, this spot is perfect for divers of all levels. There’s no lagoon here, but rather a fringing reef, an area that offers excellent visibility and is very sheltered from the swell... all the right conditions for beginners to have a great time. It’s actually a highly recommended spot for learning to dive during your vacation in Polynesia.
The reef gently leads you down to a depth of about 20 meters, where you can discover beautiful fish species that are quite accustomed to human presence. Butterflyfish, humpback snapper, moray eels, Napoleon wrasse, bannerfish, triggerfish… and blacktip reef sharks are also abundant here.
Avapehi Pass
While "fish feeding" seems to have affected quite a few sites in Polynesia, the Avapehi Pass is an exception, allowing you to experience a true adventure in the silent world. Located just a 5-minute boat ride from the town of Fare, this spot is recognized as one of the most fish-rich areas in the entire Polynesian archipelago. Many predators looking for a meal congregate here, including grey reef sharks, as well as barracudas, dogtooth tuna, and spotted eagle rays. You’ll also have the chance to spot sea turtles gliding between the coral banks. If you're lucky, you might even come across schools of batfish.
While this is a drift dive, it doesn't present any real difficulty as the current isn't very strong. It’s a dive that will delight both beginners and experienced divers alike, with the bottom sitting at about 30 meters.

The Coral Roses
This spot is arguably the most beautiful in Huahine. It’s a marvel that must be earned, as the site is only accessible to Level II divers and above, and don't expect a relaxing, easy dive. You’ll be diving about 50 meters down to discover its vast, permanently sloping field of roses. It is certainly the largest and most beautiful field in all of Polynesia, and it’s impossible to see where it ends...
