Mount Meru is a real surprise! Less well known than Kilimanjaro, it still offers a superb hiking experience, with varied landscapes, very wild nature, and way fewer people on the trails. The climb is not easy, but really rewarding, especially with clear views of Arusha and sometimes even Kilimanjaro when the sky is clear. You pass through misty forests, rocky areas, and sometimes run into animals along the way. It is a quieter adventure, but just as impressive. You have to do it if you love hiking and are looking for an authentic mountain experience!

This impressive and legendary mountain dominates the beautiful city of Cape Town. I was lucky enough to take the cable car up, which was a spectacular sight because the view is just stunning! In fact, you are more than 1,000 meters above the city here, and you really understand why this site is one of the 7 new wonders of nature. Depending on where you hike, you will get views of either the ocean or the city, a must-do during a trip to Cape Town!

Ah, Kilimanjaro, it is not just a mountain, it is a challenge! Each day harder, the air thinner, the body getting tired. But you keep going. And at the summit, at sunrise, it is unreal. Cold, silence, immense sky. I cried without knowing why. It is an experience you keep with you.

My first contact with Kilimanjaro was suspended in the air. I actually got to admire the sunrise over this legendary peak from the plane, welcome to Africa! When you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (it really lives up to its name), make sure you sit by the window on the left side of the plane ;)

Kilimanjaro, the summit of Africa, reveals itself from afar, above the plains and the Tanzanian savanna. Catching a glimpse of its snow capped crater, with acacia trees in the foreground, is a classic image but still splendid. I was lucky enough to gaze at it like that, several times, while traveling the trails and the savanna. I loved it.

Everything has been said. In that laid back Reunion Island style... Getting there means waking up well before dawn and heading to the Pas de Bellecombe. It means walking through the breaking dawn and the freezing cold. Then suddenly, the sun shoots out its first rays and the whole environment transforms. The peak stands tall, proud to be so beautiful and so ferocious. The white markers will probably guide you on the way back, which you should plan for late morning, before the sea of clouds rolls in and swallows you whole.

The higher you climb, the more the view of the surrounding plains opens up. It is a bit of a grind (the climb takes a few days), but it is truly a memorable experience. After all, it is the roof of Africa!

We chose to hike to the top on foot. It is not a walk in the park but a real hike of several hours, all uphill. Once we arrived, we were exhausted and opted to take the cable car down. The view is breathtaking.
