A museum where you walk barefoot through the water
Before stepping inside, you take off your shoes and roll up your pants. At teamLab Planets Tokyo DMM, your body becomes part of the artwork. You walk through a water zone where light bounces off the water swirling around your shins, then step into a garden where flowers seem to cling to your skin.
There are no frames and no glass display cases. The lights, mirrors, and motion sensors react to your presence, and your silhouette literally dissolves into each installation.
Why visit teamLab Planets Tokyo DMM
The venue started as an initial run in Odaiba in 2016 before expanding and relocating to Shin-Toyosu on July 7, 2018. Since then, the museum has continuously grown, with an additional Garden opening in July 2021, followed by a vast zone called Forest that expanded the site by half again in January 2025.
This ongoing expansion reflects the philosophy of the teamLab collective, which also created teamLab Borderless. The artwork is never static, transforming constantly over time and with the visitors moving through it.
The visitor route and surrounding spots
The site consists of four main artwork spaces and two gardens, spread across seven installations in total. After the immersion, head over to the Sketch Factory, where certain creations made during your visit can be turned into take-home souvenirs.
The same building also houses an orchid greenhouse and a vegan restaurant, Vegan Ramen UZU, so you can grab a bite before heading out.
Good for
- Travelers who love sensory and interactive experiences
- Anyone comfortable walking barefoot in the water
Less suited for
- Spontaneous visits without a prior reservation
- Visitors arriving by car, as there is no dedicated parking lot
Friendly tip: book your ticket in advance for a specific time slot. Without one, wait times at the entrance can be long. Plan for an hour and a half to two hours for the full route, and keep in mind that the final entry is always one hour before closing time.
How long for this activity
Plan on spending around 1.5 to 2 hours to walk through all the installations.

I really like TeamLab, it is always a slightly magical sensory experience, it is gorgeous and extremely well done. BUT... It is a total highway, there are crowds everywhere all the time and a lot of waiting in line to get the most instagrammable photos possible. So the experience is a bit mixed on my end, it is a super place but you have to expect it to be packed. On the flip side, the experience is really great for kids, with activities specially dedicated to them where they can have an absolute blast!
