What to know about Collioure Beach

Right at the foot of the town's signature church, the main beach in Collioure offers a tranquil swim inside a postcard view, just steps from the lively narrow streets and colorful facades.

A beach at the center of local life

Boramar Beach, located in the heart of the bay, is the primary beach in Collioure. Bordered by the château royal (Royal Castle) on one side and the église Notre-Dame-des-Anges (Church of Our Lady of the Angels) on the other, it provides a unique setting. Composed mainly of fine pebbles and coarse sand, it remains comfortable for lounging. Easily accessible on foot from anywhere in the center, it is one of the few places where you can swim while admiring such a historic backdrop.

Family swimming and quiet moments

Protected by the natural shape of the bay, the sea here is often calm, with a supervised swimming area during the summer. The water is clear even at shallow depths, and the spot attracts families, couples, and walkers looking to cool off. With few waves and no strong currents, the area feels secure.

The benches and low walls nearby also allow you to sit and enjoy the seascape, with Catalan boats at anchor and the silhouette of the bell tower in the background.

Services and atmosphere

You will not find private lounge chair rentals or large tourist facilities on this beach. However, just a few steps away, the restaurants and ice cream shops of the port welcome you for a break in the shade. The area can be crowded in high season, but it remains accessible outside of peak hours.

Maintenance is handled regularly and the water quality is monitored throughout the summer. It is not the largest beach on the coast, but it has the advantage of being central, clean, pleasant, and directly immersed in the visual identity of Collioure.

A dream setting for a swim

Collioure is truly a magnificent village, and what could be better than hanging out on its sandy beach and going for a swim? Whether with family or friends, it is really the perfect place to have fun and relax. One small downside: in the summer, there are a lot of people and the beach is not very big. But if that does not bother you, you will definitely have a great time!

Tip for swimming in total peace of mind

Collioure is one of the most beautiful jewels of the French coast, which means tourism is growing at a frantic pace.

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle and swim in a calmer and wilder setting, I recommend taking the paths that lead to the coves around the town.

They are sometimes a little bit steep, but swimming in the crystal clear water and the view are worth the trip.

Just watch out for the sea urchins, which are very common in the areas near the rocks. Speaking from experience, I recommend bringing water shoes.

Spanish vibes

I go to the photojournalism festival in Perpignan every year and I have visited Collioure several times for that occasion. There are excellent restaurants (a bit pricey) where you can enjoy typical Spanish food. The area around the royal castle is perfect for beautiful walks before having a drink at sunset. You will also find a beach in the very heart of Collioure and it is possible to go hiking in the region.

Beautiful beach

The Collioure beach and the town itself are really very pretty. The historic setting is perfectly preserved. I recommend coming early in the morning because in peak season, the town attracts a huge amount of people. For my part, I arrived a little before 10 a.m. and it was perfect.
