Where to stay near San Siro Stadium: the 3 areas to know in 2026
Our four members all ask the same question about San Siro, and two of them put it in writing: why would anyone want to change it? One argues for “just a renovation”, another admits he “did not quite understand whether the plan was to modernise this ground or really to build a new structure somewhere else”, a third concedes that “a little facelift would not hurt it, but that is not what you go there for”.
Here is the answer, and it comes down to a date: on 5 November 2025, the two clubs signed the deed of sale for the stadium and its land. A 71,500-seat ground will succeed it, and demolition is not expected before 2031. In the meantime the monument turned one hundred on 19 September 2026, and it became an Olympic stadium in February of the same year. That leaves the choice of where to sleep: on the forecourt, halfway towards the Fiera, or in the Milan people come to visit.

The stadium forecourt, in San Siro At the end of the lilac line, facing the stands
For anyone wanting to step out of the hotel and see the stands
The district is residential, quiet, and deliberately short of hotels: a single chain house holds the forecourt, 30 metres from the ground, and the other listings nearby fall below 6.5 on Booking, which rules them out of this selection. What you buy here is therefore simple and rare: the San Siro Stadio station opens right in front, the stands too, and on a match night that is worth more than any hotel service.
I was impressed by the architecture of the stands, which go up so high

B&B Hotel Milano San Siro Budget
Six thousand reviews and more for the house closest to the stands: 30 metres. Staff and location both score 8.9, and the bill stays that of a budget chain.
Pros
- Thirty metres to the ground
- The metro station opens right in front
- Residential streets, so silent nights
Cons
- Only one address worth recommending here
- Outside a match, the area offers nothing
Gambara, Lotto and the Fiera 4 kilometres away, on two metro lines
For anyone wanting the best balance between stadium and centre
Between the stadium and the city, the Gambara and Lotto stations line up the business hotels that live off the exhibition grounds, and their marks top the rest of the selection. The interest lies in the geography: the stadium is 4 kilometres away, the Duomo at the end of a straight metro run, and the rates follow the trade-fair dates more than the football ones. Worth remembering for anyone who wants both without paying for the centre.

Pros
- The best marks in the selection
- Two metro lines, the stadium and the Duomo
- Rates set by the trade fairs, not by the calcio
Cons
- A district of offices and exhibitions
- Neither the stands nor La Scala on foot
The Duomo and the central station 8.7 kilometres away, in the Milan people visit
For anyone coming for Milan and adding a match
This is where the city of 1,371,498 lives: the cathedral, La Scala, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and a central station 8.5 kilometres from the stands. The stadium calls for a journey, 8.7 kilometres and a change of line, but the evenings stretch out without your noticing and the next day starts out in the street. The two addresses below run from one extreme to the other: piazza Fontana on one side, a dorm bed rated 8.7 on the other.
this stadium is impressive, it is a monument, there is not another one like it

Our tips for booking the right place
- Our members' question has an answer, and it carries a date: Two of our four reviews ask why the clubs want to leave San Siro, and one even wonders whether the plan is to modernise the ground or to build elsewhere. Here is where things stand: on 5 November 2025, Inter and Milan signed the deed of sale for the stadium and its land with the city. A new 71,500-seat ground, designed by Foster + Partners and MANICA, is to rise beside it, and the demolition of San Siro is not expected before 2031 or 2032. Several seasons remain, then, to see what our members call a monument.
- One hundred years in September 2026, and an Olympic turn in February: The stadium was inaugurated on 19 September 1926: it therefore turned one hundred in September 2026. And in February of the same year it became an Olympic stadium for the first time in its history, hosting the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina Winter Games. For anyone planning a trip, that changes one thing: the city has learned to handle very large crowds on this site, and the hotels of the three areas below were all put to the test in the same week.
- The lilac line stops in front of the stands: San Siro Stadio station, on the M5, opens directly onto the forecourt, and the same line serves San Siro Ippodromo one stop earlier. That is why the centre remains workable: 8.7 kilometres, one change, and you are at the foot of the Duomo. Sleeping on site remains the choice of anyone who wants to get back in thirty metres after the match, but it is not the only way to avoid a car.
- Booking on the forecourt hoping for a lively district: it is residential, and the trattorias close early.
- Taking the first listing you find around the stadium: several fall below 6.5 on Booking, and this page does not name them.
- Planning a stay without looking at the Fiera calendar: the trade fairs push up the rates at Gambara and Lotto more reliably than a match does.
