What is London Bridge City Pier?
London Bridge City Pier sits on the south bank of the Thames, right next to the iconic Tower Bridge. This pier serves as the primary landing stage for river transport on the Thames. Several river bus and cruise operators run daily sightseeing routes and evening sailings, alongside private charters for events like holiday parties, weddings, and corporate dinners.
What is there to do?
You are steps away from City Hall, the seat of the London Assembly. Nearby, you will also find:
- Hay's Galleria, a covered arcade housing offices, restaurants, shops, and apartments. It was once a warehouse directly linked to the Port of London.
- The HMS Belfast: A light cruiser from World War II built by the Royal Navy. It opened as a permanent museum ship on the Thames in 1971. The site features interactive history exhibits, and you can explore all 9 decks, including the flag deck.
- Borough Market: A massive wholesale and retail food market tucked under the railway arches, specializing in British meats, pastries, and dairy. It ranks as one of the oldest and largest food markets in the world.
- The Shard: Once known as the London Bridge Tower, this 87-story glass skyscraper features a jagged, spire-like top and sits directly across from the City of London. It contains restaurants, offices, a hotel, and a high-altitude observation deck.
- The London Bridge Experience: An immersive tourist attraction where actors guide you through key moments in London history, including Boudicca’s battles against the Romans and the Great Fire of London.
Not very "authentic" and very touristy, taking the "tour boats" that leave from this pier has the merit of letting you discover London in a different way.
Besides, personal thought, I feel like the Thames and its banks could be better showcased by the local authorities.
