Visiting the Natural History Museum in London

The Natural History Museum in London houses a collection of 70 million specimens focused on life and earth sciences. The building architecture is striking from the moment you arrive. Inside the entrance, you are greeted by a massive blue whale skeleton, which sets the stage for the exhibits and hints at the scale of the collection.

The museum organizes its 70 million specimens into 4 color-coded zones to help visitors navigate the vast space.

Blue Zone

This area houses the dinosaur collection. You will find skeletal remains and full-scale reconstructions, including the animatronic T-Rex. The zone also features a hall dedicated to large mammals like elephants, giraffes, and rhinos, alongside sections for small mammals, marine invertebrates, and photography of the natural world.

Green Zone

Here you will find a collection of diverse and unique birds, including the dodo and various hummingbirds, as well as endangered species. The zone also showcases minerals, fossils of marine reptiles, and a collection of insects, crabs, centipedes, and spiders. Visitors can also explore a children's science center, historical and cultural artifacts, and a display of colored diamonds.

Red Zone

This section features a presentation on volcanoes and a earthquake simulator, an intact Stegosaurus skeleton, and a wall-sized celestial map. You will also find precious stones and minerals, along with an exhibition detailing human evolution over the last 7 million years.

Orange Zone

This includes a wildlife garden open during the spring and summer, which supports over 3,000 species of flora and fauna. There is also a section dedicated to the Darwin Centre, where you can learn about the work of researchers and scientists.

One of the best museums in the world!

I am not going to mince words, but as a huge fan of natural history museums, I think this is the best one I have ever visited. It is incredible to explore and there is plenty to delight enthusiasts. Between the dinosaurs, birds, and volcanoes, I am thrilled! The museum is also very well organized for visitors, and I recommend it for everyone! Perfect for a rainy day!
