Center Parcs Parc Sandur, located in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands, is a great destination for anyone looking for peace and quiet alongside plenty of outdoor activities. Set right on the shores of the Grote Rietplas, a calm lake, the property features spacious cottages sitting on small peninsulas with uninterrupted water views.
A 15-minute drive away, the Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen is a massive animal park housing species from every continent in meticulously recreated habitats. You can easily spend a full day exploring it. You can also drive along the nearby route des Dolmens (Dolmen Route) to discover prehistoric burial monuments.
Activities and amenities
At Center Parcs Parc Sandur, you can go sailing, paddleboarding, canoeing, and fishing directly from your rental. Nature lovers will appreciate the walking and biking trails winding through the scenic Drenthe countryside.
While smaller and more intimate than other Center Parcs locations, and missing a full Aqua Mundo, this resort still offers plenty of family-friendly options. Kids can check out the indoor playground at Repaire des Pierates (Pirate's Den), an adventure zone packed with slides, rope bridges, and interactive games. The resort also features an indoor pool with slides for the family.
Sports fans can take advantage of padel, squash, and badminton courts, plus mini-golf courses. If you prefer a slower pace, you can try peaceful lakeside fishing or take a boat tour to explore the area.
Finally, adults can unwind with a relaxing steam in the hammam and sauna.
The 4 types of rentals available
Like all Center Parcs locations, this property primarily offers 3 types of cottages, single-level standalone houses accommodating 2 to 12 guests: Comfort, Premium, or VIP. These rentals are spacious and well-equipped, complete with private terraces and panoramic lake views. A fourth category is also available: the children's cottage, decorated and equipped specifically with kids in mind.
When you want to eat, 4 restaurants and an on-site supermarket are available for your meals.

Really beautiful setting, right by the water, very quiet, with a really cool view from the cottage. It is great for kids: playgrounds, little animals (goats, pigs, and even llamas), bike rentals, bikes... There is also a small grocery store, a restaurant, and even a bowling alley.
On the other hand, the pool disappointed me. It is small, with only one slide. We are far from the domes and wild rivers we are used to seeing in France.
Also watch out for the prices in the grocery store, they sting. Do your shopping before you come!
