Where to stay in Amiens: the best neighbourhoods (2026)

From Paris, the train takes 1 hour and more than 20 run daily in each direction, making a day trip entirely doable. One thing might slow you down, the boat schedules. The tour boats through the floating gardens of the hortillonnages only run in the afternoons from April 1 to October 31, and nothing operates from November to March.

If you stay overnight, the city is easy to cross on foot. Only 766 meters separate the cathédrale from the train station, and quai Bélu in the heart of Saint-Leu is just a 5-minute walk from the front plaza. Four neighborhoods handle overnight stays, and the station district sits closest to the boat docks.

I only stayed in Amiens for a few hours, around the cathedral and the Saint Leu neighborhood. It is pretty nice, but a bit dead. I think you can see everything there pretty quickly.

Right by the cathedral and Saint-Leu Historic center, on the riverbank

The cathedral and canals all in one place

The closest hotel to the monument is 73 metres from the front plaza, which rarely happens next to a cathedral of this size. Heading north, the Saint-Leu neighborhood lines up its low-rise houses along the branches of the Somme River, and Quai Bélu starts 376 metres from the plaza. You will only find two rated hotels there, one 3-star and the other 4-star. Smaller budgets will need to look elsewhere on this page.

Hôtel Mercure Amiens Cathédrale Luxury

A 4-star hotel boasting 102 rooms on rue Flatters, located 214 metres from the plaza. No other hotel in the historic center offers this many rooms, and no other 4-star property stands within 400 metres or less of the monument. It belongs to the Accor group, so booking and customer service go through the parent company.

Hôtel Le Prieuré Mid-range

A spot on rue Porion running independently, rated 3 stars with 23 rooms. Nothing else on this page gets this close, exactly 73 meters of pavement between the front door and the cathedral square. You deal with the staff directly, with no booking corporation in the middle.

  • Both addresses sit less than 220 metres from the plaza

  • The Hôtel de Berny museum is 295 metres from the plaza

  • Only two addresses, meaning 125 rooms in total
  • The boat boarding dock is further than it looks, at 1 058 metres

The train station, Perret Tower, and the boat docks Rebuilt downtown, to the southeast

The train from Paris and the departure point for the boats

The boat launch for the floating gardens sits at 54 boulevard Beauvillé, 701 meters from the station compared to 1,058 meters from the cathedral. This puts your bed closer to the boat tours here than anywhere near the monument. Post-war reconstruction shaped this district around the tour Perret, the towering concrete landmark anchoring the station, and it concentrates most of the city rooms alongside its cheapest stay. The heavy concrete is not for everyone, and a local reviewer touches on that below.

I am slightly biased since I was born in this city and lived there until I was 18, but objectively it is worth a look, with the possible exception of the station whose renovation took a lot of heat a few years back, and fairly so!

West of the center, around square Friant Western neighborhoods, 10 to 30 minutes on foot

The lowest-cost beds within walking distance

The youth hostel accommodates 192 guests across 89 rooms holding one to four beds, making it feel more like a budget hotel than a massive dorm, and it stays open year-round. It is 1 840 metres to the cathedral square. A helpful detail before booking: the hotel that actually includes the word cathedral in its name is 832 metres away. Travelers choose this spot to stay a few nights and save on the bill, even if it involves a bit of walking.

La Chambre d'Amiens Mid-range

On Avenue de l'Hippodrome, a 3-star hotel with 25 rooms operates under the Logis brand. Aside from the campground, nothing in this guide sits quite this far from the center, with 2,062 metres separating the property from the cathedral, making for a 25-minute walk or a bus ride.

The Gem Mid-range

On Rue Le Nôtre, a guesthouse operates as short-term tourist lodging rather than a hotel, so star ratings do not apply. Our checks turned up no other properties quite like it in Amiens.

Hôtel B&B Amiens Centre Cathédrale Mid-range

A 3-star hotel with 94 rooms sits on the western edge of the center. The name nods to the cathedral, but 832 metres actually lie between them, a detail worth keeping in mind before booking if you expect to step right outside the landmark.

Auberge de Jeunesse Amiens - Edith Arnoult-Brill Budget

Operating as a group hostel, the property provides 192 beds spread across 89 rooms holding one to four beds, including five accessible units, and stays open year-round. Minors traveling alone are accepted starting at 16 years of age, provided they present a signed parental authorization form.

Check availability

Pros

  • The most affordable beds accessible on foot
  • A guesthouse and a hostel in a part of town dominated by chains
  • The hostel welcomes guests in January just as it does in July, long after the canal boats stop running for the winter

Cons

  • Expect a walk of 10 to 30 minutes depending on the exact address
  • None of the hotels in this area hold a 4-star rating
  • In the evening, dining spots are clustered in the center rather than along these streets

The Somme Valley to the northwest Along the river, outside the center

The lowest nightly rates run from April to October

The campground features 105 pitches and 9 rental units right by the river, sitting along the towpath followed by the Somme Valley bike route. Management publishes their rate sheet openly, something almost no one else does around here. Two factors pull in the other direction: 4,837 metres separate the site from the cathedral, and full services run only from April 3 to October 11. No other lodgings share this sector.

Where to stay in this area

Camping des Cygnes Budget

Rated 3 stars, it spans 105 grassy pitches of at least 80 square metres alongside 9 mobile homes right by the river. Only two lodging providers publish their full rate sheets in Amiens, and this is one of them. Watch out for its former name which is still widely used, as the property is now called Camping des Cygnes.

Check availability

Pros

  • Nowhere else in Amiens costs as little per night as this spot
  • The towpath leads into the center by bike, completely away from cars
  • The RV area remains accessible outside of peak season

Cons

  • The cathedral is 4,837 metres away, making it a walk of more than an hour
  • Full services shut down from October 12 to April 2
  • A mobile home requires a minimum stay of 2 nights

Our tips for booking the right place

  • The boat schedule: The association boats that run the site depart from April 1st through October 31st, afternoons only. The ride lasts 45 minutes, taking 12 people plus a guide, and the adult fare is 11 EUR. Reservations close at 6 PM the day before. From November to March, no boats run, and this schedule often dictates when people plan their trip.
  • A train station 766 meters from the monument: The train from Paris takes 1 hour, and the tourism office lists more than 20 daily trains in each direction. Once you step off, distances stay short: the cathedral sits at 766 meters, quai Bélu at 1,072 meters, and the boat boarding dock at 701 meters. Two addresses in this guide break this rule, the auberge du square Friant and the campground. Everywhere else, a car only creates parking headaches.
  • Just two hotels right beneath the towers: The historic center counts two rated hotels, a 3-star with 23 rooms and a 4-star with 102. That makes 125 rooms for the most in-demand part of town. Over long weekends or during local events, these book up first, pushing the remaining beds toward the station area. Book the historic center early, or aim straight for the station neighborhood.
Where not to stay in Amiens (honestly)
  • Booking for the hortillonnages between November and March: no boats run during these 5 months, and the boulevard Beauvillé dock stays shut.
  • Pick a hotel by its name: the one with cathedral in its title sits 832 meters away, while two other spots sit less than 220 meters from the parvis.
  • Counting on the off-season campground: its full services only operate from April 3rd to October 11th, leaving just the RV area open the rest of the year.

FAQ: where to stay in Amiens

Where should you stay in Amiens?
Head toward the train station when the floating gardens bring you to town, or when you arrive by rail. This area has the highest concentration of beds, and the boat departure docks are closer here than anywhere else. Stay right by the cathedral if you want your windows to open up directly onto the landmark, though you will need to book well in advance since only two properties are located there. Choose the western edge of the center if you are staying several nights on a budget.
What does a night cost in Amiens?
The most transparent pricing in town comes from the 1-star hotel near the station, which lists its budget double rooms starting at 50 EUR and quadruple rooms from 80 EUR. The campground also publishes its rates, ranging from 13.80 to 27.70 EUR per pitch depending on the season. On top of that, you have the city tourist tax, which the campground lists between 0.60 and 0.66 EUR per night per adult. Everywhere else, rates fluctuate daily through booking engines, so we prefer not to pull an average out of thin air.
Where can you stay on a budget in Amiens?
Three options, each suited for a different type of traveler. The youth hostel on Square Friant rents rooms with one to four beds year-round. The Somme Valley campground offers the cheapest overnight rates, though it only accepts guests from April through October. Meanwhile, the 1-star hotel near the station is your best bet for a central location.
Where is best for families staying in Amiens?
The 1-star hotel by the station rents triple and quadruple rooms, including one setup with bunk beds, and prices by the room. The youth hostel also has four-bed rooms, with five accessible rooms available. At the campground, mobile homes sleep anywhere from two to six people depending on the model, provided you stay at least two nights.
Do you need a car to get around Amiens?
Not if you stay in the first two areas, as the cathedral, Quai Bélu, and boat docks are all within 1,100 meters of the station. A car helps if you are heading to the Square Friant hostel, which sits 1,840 meters from the cathedral forecourt, and becomes essential for the campground located 4,837 meters away. If you are driving in, check with your hotel about parking before anything else, since many downtown streets are off-limits to vehicles.
Should you stay overnight in Amiens or head back to Paris for the evening?
That depends on the month rather than your itinerary. From November through March, a day trip is plenty. The train takes 1 hour, the cathedral and Jules Verne house can easily be toured in a single afternoon, and the canal boats do not run. From April through October, the tour of the floating gardens only runs in the afternoon, lasts 45 minutes, and requires booking the day before. Staying overnight leaves your next morning wide open for the rest of the city.
