Below, the old streets wind down toward the Loire between stone terraces and shops, and the Clos-Lucé marks the eastern edge of the area, 600 meters away. It is the only part of Amboise where you sleep right in the middle of the sights. The downside is the small scale of the buildings: several downtown hotels have only 10 rooms, and they book up months ahead for the summer.
After visiting the Château d'Amboise and the Clos Lucé, I recommend taking a walk through the city center, which is very pretty. It is quite well preserved and has typical architecture.
