Visiting Tipasa, a Jewel on the Algerian Coast
Located on the Mediterranean coast, about 70 km west of Algiers, Tipasa draws travelers interested in history and coastal scenery. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1982, this ancient Roman city stands out for its archaeological ruins, sunny beaches, and natural setting.
Step Back into Antiquity
Tipasa started as a Phoenician trading post before becoming a Roman military base in the 2nd century. You can explore the Roman ruins, which include a well-preserved Roman theater, baths, and a 4th-century Christian basilica. Do not miss the Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania, also known as the Tomb of the Christian Woman, a massive circular monument located a few kilometers outside the town.

If you are flying in from the United States, you will typically connect through major European hubs like Paris or Frankfurt to reach Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers. From the airport, Tipasa is a one-hour drive west along the coast.
