This nature park is magnificent, and it covers a large part of the island. It features a beautiful forest as well as two large saltwater lakes. If you like walking, it is the dream destination. You can go on some super hikes through the park. On the island, you will find everything you need.

One of my best memories of Zagreb! I drove to the park, but it is also easy to get there by public transport from the city center. I spent a full day hiking the forest trails and heading up toward the Sljeme summit. I really felt like I was out in nature! The trail going up is pretty tough, but the view over the region is worth the climb. There are tons of walking and biking paths, so there is something for every skill level. Besides the scenery, you come across churches and mines along the way. I unfortunately didn't have time to see the bat caves. It is better to get there early in the morning and on a weekday to enjoy the peace and quiet.

This natural park is beautiful and well worth the trip. I was lucky enough to visit in December and June. Both seasons bring something different and are worth it. Just a heads up, it gets very crowded in the summer. It was so nice to be able to take my time in December. Several routes are available, more or less long and difficult depending on your preferences.

Croatians are lucky to be able to enjoy a mountain range like Medvednica right in their capital. I lived in Zagreb for a few months and this place became a real refuge. I went there very often, especially when it was really hot in the summer to look for a little bit of cool air. There are short or long trails that are usable and pretty accessible. It is possible to go up or down by funicular.

Contrary to what the location of this park might suggest, being on an Adriatic island, I did not find any beautiful beaches there. However, around the two lakes, there are lovely hikes to do in the Mediterranean forest, accompanied by the sound of cicadas. Also, let me reassure you, there are plenty of places to go for a swim along the banks of the lakes. Bring your swimsuit!

On the island of Mljet, this forest-covered national park is known for its two saltwater lakes. You can hike around them, go for a swim... I really liked it. Things to see: - Hike to the summit of Montokuc (yes, you can't make up names like that) to get great views of the lakes, the forest, and the Adriatic. Count on a good hour of vigorous walking in the heat, but it is worth it. Very pretty natural park offering very varied landscapes, between steep mountains and a coast with turquoise waters, there is really plenty to see nature in its most beautiful colors. You can head underground into the Manita Pec caves, or see breathtaking views while overlooking the Velika Paklenica canyon.

Croatia is known for its beaches and monuments, but this nature park is definitely worth the trip. The topography, the waterways, and the lush green forests offer a huge variety of color contrasts and stunning natural landscapes. Plan for a full day of walking to really soak it all in.

Mljet National Park covers a good portion of the island of the same name. On the menu: hilly landscapes covered in forests, that characteristic scent of pine trees, splendid lakes, a small fishing village, and an old monastery that seems to appear out of nowhere on a tiny islet. The rest of Mljet is also pleasant, with beaches, a few activities, and restaurants.

There is quite a bit of elevation in this national park, and as soon as you get off the beaten path, the trails can be difficult. It gets very hot there in the summer. The hikes can turn out to be quite a workout if you want them to be. The reward: a beautiful forest inhabited by century-old trees, birds and animals of all kinds, and lakes with crystal-clear water, plus refreshing waterfalls.
