Located in the town of Ricadi, just a few miles from Tropea, Capo Vaticano is a crown jewel of Calabria. Facing the Aeolian Islands, this 4-mile stretch offers some of the most dramatic views in Italy. With rocky spurs, cliffs, and caves, the coastline features dozens of hidden coves along the Tyrrhenian Sea. Explore this shoreline from the Baie du Tono (Tono Bay) to the Baie de Santa Maria (Santa Maria Bay) by land or by boat.
Attached to the small village of Staletti, the hamlet of Caminia is a paradise on the Ionian coast. Its bay is one of the finest in southern Italy. Dominated by the Torrazo cliff, Caminia Beach features a long stretch of white sand beneath the rocks. Typical scrubland vegetation adds character to this site where warm, crystalline water shifts from turquoise to deep blue. Copanello Beach is particularly pretty. The water is warm, calm, and turquoise, which is reassuring for kids. A few rocky islets brighten up the horizon, and the white sand is fine. In short, you are right there in a vacation postcard. You can even spot some fish with a mask and snorkel if you head toward the rocky areas. Small downside: it gets very crowded in high season!

You won't have much luck finding any solitude at Tropea beach, and that is the only complaint I have about it. You are packed in a bit tight during the high season. Nevertheless, it is easy to get to, it feels safe for swimming with the family and kids, and the setting is stunning. Rocky promontories on both sides, old buildings overlooking the cliff in the back, and turquoise waters out front. I marked "no" for couples, because I think you can find something quieter and more romantic in the area.
