Wynwood, when warehouses started painting

Here, the facades tell a different story at every street corner. Former industrial warehouses and textile mills disappear beneath giant mural paintings signed by artists from around the world.

The neighborhood extends north of downtown Miami, between the Design District and Overtown, in Miami-Dade County.

Why visit Wynwood

The neighborhood was once an area of warehouses and textile factories with nothing particularly appealing for visitors. Its conversion into an artistic hub changed everything, with contemporary art galleries, artist studios, and independent exhibition spaces multiplying across the blocks.

The catalyst came from Wynwood Walls, an outdoor space born from the initiative of real estate developer Tony Goldman, who wanted to transform these former industrial buildings into an open-air canvas. Today it is the best-known showcase of the neighborhood, gathering works by international artists.

Street art, galleries, and rehabilitated old warehouses

Strolling through the streets lets you observe the frescoes covering the facades at your own pace. Wynwood Walls concentrates some of the most iconic works inside a paid admission area, separate from the free circulation in the neighborhood streets.

Galleries open to the public offer temporary exhibitions, and the neighborhood becomes a major crossroads during Art Basel Miami Beach week, with exhibitions and satellite events spilling out into the streets.

In the rehabilitated former industrial spaces, numerous bars, craft breweries, and restaurants have set up shop, naturally extending the visit throughout the day.

Friendly tip: plan for two to four hours to explore the neighborhood on foot, depending on your appetite for art and galleries. Keep in mind that Wynwood Walls operates on its own schedule, separate from free street access.

Getting there

Wynwood is accessible via the city of Miami's free trolley line serving the neighborhood, or by car with paid parking lots available on-site. The Design District, just to the north, is within walking distance.

You’ll find tons of art galleries and colorful murals that line the streets throughout the neighborhood. In the center of it all is the world’s largest outdoor museum, Wynwood Walls. There, you’ll see giant, colorful and vibrant murals from some amazing artists. Please note that you will have to pay for entry into the museum and for parking.
