Why try snuba in Philipsburg?
This experience bridges the gap between traditional snorkeling and scuba diving. You descend to 3 or 6 metres and stay down there, instead of popping back up to the surface every twenty seconds for air. The bay is ideal for it, featuring shallow flats, mild currents, and warm water year-round.
Guidance is constant, and participation is open starting at age 8, with no previous diving license needed. Travelers who prefer staying on the surface can join the same trip as snorkelers or simple boat passengers, meaning mixed groups never have to split up.
How the trip works
Departure
Trips depart from Bobby's Marina on Juancho Yrausquin Boulevard, just a five-minute walk from Front Street. The exact meeting point is confirmed when you book.
Time in the water
Expect 45 minutes underwater, totaling about two hours when you factor in check-in, the safety briefing, and trying out the gear on the surface. Equipment is provided, so you just need to bring a swim suit, a towel, and reef-safe sunscreen.
Who runs the operation
Opened in 2016 by Michel and Kelly Wouterse after spending several years working in professional diving and snuba. Groups are kept intentionally small, and an in-water guide accompanies participants beneath the surface from start to finish.
